Get Ready for Cold and Flu Season with Natural Antivirals

In antioxidants, COVID-19, Epstein Barr and Cancer, inflammation, Natural Antivirals, Natural remedies for Flu and Covid, Uncategorized on November 2, 2022 at 8:10 am

Is there really such a thing as flu-season and can we rely on vaccines? I am not certain, but with colds (which are viral), flus, and COVID-19 in the air, it makes sense to bolster our immune systems. A good overall strategy to prevent getting sick this winter or during the other seasons could include natural antivirals that support the body and do no harm.

Natural therapeutic food supplements have always been considered an excellent source against viral infections. Viruses hijack healthy cells and reprogram them to make more viruses, which allows the virus to spread more virulently. Therefore, halting the process can reduce viral load and make symptoms less severe.

The original “flu shot” our grandmothers concocted was typically something that contained raw garlic, onion, ginseng root, cayenne pepper, green onion (similar to scallions) turmeric, and ginger. But there are many fruits, herbs, and supplements to consider taking now for prevention and others to keep on hand if you do feel a bit under the weather. Below are a few to consider.

Resveratrol and Other Polyphenols

Studies have shown that the polyphenol resveratrol can assist in various stages of COVID-19, colds, and other viruses. A study done at the Institute of Microbiology in Rome found that resveratrol “strongly inhibited” the replication of the flu virus in cell cultures. They credited resveratrol’s antioxidant properties for targeting viruses at the cellular level. [i]

The researchers found it highly effective when administered three hours after infection or symptoms, but if your roommate, spouse, kids, coworkers, etc. are symptomatic, perhaps consider it now. While there is no conclusive evidence that it prevents viruses altogether, it might lessen the severity. Resveratrol is found in red grapes, red wine, grape juice, blueberries, bilberries, and cranberries, but can also be found in supplement form (typically extracted from Japanese knotweed roots).

Another study published in Pharmacology and Therapeutics found that resveratrol has antiviral activity against numerous viruses responsible for severe respiratory infections.  Its anti-inflammatory properties can be credited for lowering the risk of severe virus-related complications related to the overactivation of the host-immune response, leading to lung damage. [ii]

Polyphenols, in general, are found to be anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial and thus can be effective against viral infections. Most plant-based foods such as vegetables and fruits contain polyphenols that exert these antiviral activities. But berries, herbs, and spices have some of the highest polyphenol content. Berries such as elderberries, blueberries, raspberries, and cranberries have consistently proven to be effective against viral infections. They are known to strongly impede the replication in cell lines which may relieve the symptoms of cold and flu viruses. A 2021 study published in the National Library of Medicine, “Berry Derived Constituents in Suppressing Viral Infection: Potential Avenues for Viral Pandemic Management” found that “berries could be an alternative source for managing viral infections.”  [iii]

Previous studies have shown that elderberry can reduce flu symptoms and shorten the duration of symptoms in half, but more recently scientists have identified a compound in elderberries that binds to cell receptor sites to block viruses, essentially immobilizing the flu virus. Apparently, a unique phytochemical in elderberries blocks the virus from hijacking healthy cells, preventing the virus from replicating. In doing so it may cut recovery time to 48 hours. The extract was also able to stimulate the immune system to coordinate a more efficient response to the virus, contributing to the shortened duration. [iv]

A study published in the American Journal of Physiology/Endocrinology and Metabolism, “Can Phytotherapy with Polyphenols Serve as a Powerful Approach for the Prevention and Therapy Tool of Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)?” reported on the clinical utility of plants-derived polyphenols in fighting viral infections. The researchers found that “polyphenols help to suppress viral replication, inflammation, and additional pathogenic conditions as well as to help restore the natural immune response.” [v]

While the following conclusion was made in 2020 before vaccines were offered, it amazes me that polyphenolic compounds have not gotten much attention with respect to COVID:

“Given the lack of vaccine and effective antiviral agents for COVID-19, evidence is provided to propose that natural polyphenolic compounds may serve as a useful arsenal to mitigate coronaviral infection in view of their established beneficial properties and functions.” (levy, 2020)[vi]

More Options

Ginger has anti-inflammatory, fever-breaking (although fevers do help the body to heal, too high a fever is not always great), blood-thinning, and antiviral activity.

A good multivitamin, adequate vitamins A, C, and D, zinc, selenium, probiotics, mushroom extracts, beta glucans, selenium, and astragalus support immune function, helping to slow down the speed at which pathogens replicate and mutate.

Zinc and Chaga mushroom inhibit the ability of viruses to reproduce and spread. Magnesium, fish or krill oil, vitamin E, and curcumin (turmeric) are natural anti-inflammatories. Also helpful are holy basil/ tulsi, ashwagandha, raw garlic, propolis, and NAC (N-acetylcysteine).

Antiviral colloidal silver, quercetin, olive leaf extract, monolaurin, and lysine are also quite helpful. One of my absolute favorites, especially for COVID (or the vaccine) is black cumin (also known as nigella and black seed).

Given the general lack of efficacy of past flu shots and considering the inability of COVID vaccines to prevent a person from getting or spreading the virus (and the risks involved with these shots), natural means of support may be worth considering.

On a side note:

Found that in preclinical studies, resveratrol also helped prevent malignant transformation of human B cells in response to the Epstein Barr virus (EBV), a process linked to many cancers. (For more information on EBV and cancer, please visit Epstein Barr and Cancer.

Enzymes for Optimal Health During Cancer Healing

In Alternative Cancer Therapies, Alternatives Cancer Treatment, Anticancer diet, Cancer, Cancer Coach, Cononavirus, COVID-19, Enzymatic Therapy for Cancer, Uncategorized on December 10, 2020 at 4:38 pm

Many are aware of the benefits of enzymes as a boost to heal from cancer. While your doctor has likely not handed you a prescription for carrots, sauerkraut, or broccoli, we know that diet plays a huge role in healing from cancer. Certain foods (and supplements) can target cancer cells, inhibit progression, and make the body inhospitable to cancer. But what is it about enzymes in our food that makes a difference?

Simply put, metabolic enzymes promote optimal function of heart, brain, lung, and kidney function. They do this by helping the body break down large food molecules into smaller units that can be absorbed and utilized by cells, which is how our bodies get nourished from the proteins, fats, and carbs we consume.

There are literally hundreds of metabolic enzymes in our cells, organs, blood, and bones. They are secreted by the salivary glands, stomach, pancreas, and small intestine. But to clarify, there are basically three main types of enzymes.  The enzyme protease works to digest proteins, lipase helps to digest fats, and amylase works on carbs. In other words, enzymes speed up the digestive process so nutrients from food can be properly absorbed. When food is digested too slowly the pancreas and other organs feel the stress and are less able to rebuild cells and tissues and keep the immune system functioning properly.

The problem is we usually lack enzymes because we cook our food to death. But that isn’t the only problem. Processed foods, excessive stress, and many other things can deplete enzyme reserves. Eating a mostly plant-based raw diet along with cultured and sprouted foods can help. Foods that contain considerable digestive enzymes include pineapple (especially the core), mangoes, bananas, raw honey, avocados, kiwi, ginger, sprouted seeds, and fermented foods such as sauerkraut and kimchi. Too cold for a completely raw diet right now? I am right there with you. Make a soup to go along with your salad or add fresh sprouts to your soup as a garnish.

However, if you still notice that are losing weight, have a change in your stool, or have excessive gas or pain after eating you may benefit from taking supplemental enzymes. Also important is to keep the body in balance, meaning your pH level may be too acidic, which according to some, prevents the enzymes from working properly. If that fails to bring you comfort, you might need to switch your brand as each enzyme has slightly different ratios of all three digestive enzymes (lipase, protease, and amylase and some don’t contain all). Please note that supplements are best taken directly before your meal.

A few supplements you might find helpful:

Enzymedica Digest Gold

EnzymeMD

Digestzymes

VegEnzymes

Bromelain

The above information is not meant as a cancer treatment, but rather to improve digestion to boost immune function and improve health. Many alternative doctors do use enzyme therapies specifically to target cancer. According to the late cancer specialist Nicholas Gonzalez, high-dose enzyme therapy helps to break down tumors, clear the circulatory system of debris, and stimulate the immune system. Some also believe enzymes can break down the protective coating of cancer-promoting viruses so that they can be seen and targeted by the immune system.  Please note that high dose enzyme therapy should only be done under the guidance of a medical professional.

Lastly, right now with the ongoing COVID issue, good nutrition and optimal absorption is our best defense –that and maintaining a superior vitamin D level (always with K2 support).

Supplements Can Make Covid-19 Worse

In autoimmune, Cancer Coach, COVID-19, inflammation, Uncategorized on April 13, 2020 at 11:03 am

Supplements can be extremely helpful in preventing Covid-19 from replicating and making you sick. However, certain supplements should actually be avoided if you have symptoms of the virus. They could make Covid-19 worse.

With Covid-19, at first the immune system fails to respond effectively to the virus, then the immune response becomes too aggressive and floods the body with cytokines. Cytokines are inflammatory molecules that can spin out of control with Covid-19. The surge of cytokines damages blood vessels and allows fluids to seep into the lungs, filling them up, making it difficult for one to breathe.

The hyperactive immune response, often referred to as a cytokine storm, causes the lungs to stop delivering oxygen to the rest of the organs, leading to respiratory failure, and in some cases death.

Researchers are working hard at finding drugs that suppress the cytokine storm. Steroids have been used to treat patients, but with mixed results—they help some and increasing the risk of death in others.

Tocilizumab (Actemra), a rheumatoid arthritis drug, is also being studied.  Actemra is an IL-6 inhibitor that might help fend off the severe lung inflammation that hits some patients.  With $25 million in backing from the U.S. Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), Swiss drug maker Roche will speed up Actemra’s phase 3 trial in COVID-19 patients.[i]

Meanwhile,  many natural substances can be helpful, but some can actually make the virus more symptomatic and deadly.

Natural Substances and Covid-19

For the healthy, asymptomatic individual the focus should be on increasing immune defense and inhibiting viral replication.  Some helpful supplements are curcumin, Pao pereira, vitamin C, quercetin, elderberry, and astragalus (may need to stop the latter two if symptomatic), which have been found to target inflammation while also reducing viral replication. Should symptoms develop, it might make sense to focus on anti-viral substances along with strategies to reduce inflammation. Supplements that you might want to avoid if symptomatic include vitamin D,  modified citrus pectin, certain mushroom extracts and possibly elderberry and astragalus. (Please know that there are many different opinions on this subject, so please use your best judgement). Read on for more detail.

Protective Supplements for Covid-19 (and optimal health)

It is important to understand that the recommendations listed are not intended to be medical advice and should not be considered as a replacement for medical treatment. However, they might beneficial for relieving minor symptoms and inhibiting the progression of Covid-19. By stimulating the immune system early on and keeping inflammation in check, it may be possible to control the virus before the cytokine storm and resulting inflammation renders a person critical. Further, natural antiviral substances may inhibit the ability of Covid-19 to replicate and strengthen the body’s defenses against the virus.

For example, grapeseed extract, a rich source of polyphenols, has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties.[iii]  NAC helps to reduce inflammation in bronchial tubes and lung tissue. CoQ10 is immunomodulator. Sulforaphane, colloidal silver, olive leaf extract, monolaurin, and lysine have anti-viral properties that may be helpful against Covid-19.

A good multivitamin, adequate vitamin D (discontinue if symptoms present), zinc, selenium, probiotics, mushroom extracts, beta glucans (discontinue if symptoms present), vitamin C, elderberry, and astragalus will help keep the immune system strong, helping to slow down the speed at which pathogens replicate and mutate.  Zinc and chaga mushroom inhibit the ability of viruses to reproduce and spread. Magnesium, fish or krill oil, vitamin E, and curcumin (turmeric) are natural anti-inflammatories.

Read more HERE: Fighting Covid-19

If you have Covid-19, certain supplements could help inhibit the virus and calm the inflammatory cytokine storm. A product called Cytokine Supress offers both mung bean extract and EGCG that helps to control levels of inflammatory cytokines and balance the inflammatory response.

Substances that May Calm the Cytokine Storm:

  • PQQ
  • Curcumin
  • Resveratrol
  • Luteolin
  • Green Tea
  • Mung Bean Extract
  • Quercetin
  • Apigenin (found in parsley, celery and chamomile)
  • Boswellia (frankincense)
  • Pterostilbene
  • Reishi
  • Magnesium
  • Krill or fish oil (as well as other essential fatty acids such as evening primrose and flax seed oil
  • Cat’s claw
  • Vitamins C, E, and K
  • Broccoli Sprouts (sulphoraphane)
  • Oats
  • Astaxanthin
  • Beets (Betaine)
  • Anthocyanins
  • Ginger
  • Probiotics
  • NAC
  • Grapeseed extract
  • CoQ10

Supplements to Avoid if You Have Covid-19 Symptoms:

It is important to know that some supplements, while excellent for prevention, should be avoided if symptoms present. For example, according to Dr. Andrew Weill, Founder and Director of the Andrew Weill Center for Integrative Medicine, while vitamin D supports immune function, “it should be discontinued while symptoms are present and can be resumed upon return to health.”[ii] He says this because vitamin D can activate the inflammatory cascade which characterizes and contributes to acute symptomatic Covid-19 infection. IMPORTANT UPDATE:  Numerous new studies and actual usage has found vitamin D to be highly effective in preventing the progression of COVID19.

Weill also advises against elderberry if Covid-19 symptomatic. “Elderberry extracts may help to prevent the early stage of corona virus infections, which includes COVID-19. Elderberry contains compounds which decrease the ability of viruses to infect cells…. However, as a part of its immune supportive actions, elderberry increases immune cell release of tiny chemicals called cytokines. Specifically, elderberry increases the release of a cytokine called IL-1B which is a part of the inflammatory reaction to COVID-19 that can result in acute respiratory distress. For this reason, to minimize the possibility that elderberry could aggravate the inflammatory “cytokine storm” associated with the more severe COVID-19 infections, it is recommended to stop elderberry at the first signs of infection (fever, cough, sore throat) and/or if you test positive for the virus.”

Mushroom extracts act as immunomodulators that appear to reduce inflammation and regulate the cytokine response. On the other hand, beta glucans, lentinan, and other isolated polysaccharides such as modified citrus pectin tend to increase the inflammatory cytokine response and virulence of Covid-19 and may need to be avoided during viral infection.

  • Elderberry and astragalus (mixed info on these two)
  • Beta Glucans (isolated polysaccharides)
  • Modified Citrus Pectin
  • Coriolis and Turkey Tail Mushroom
  • Any other supplements that activate the immune cell cytokine response

 In your everlasting good health,

Elyn

How COVID-19 Attacks the Body

In Cancer Coach, cancer stem cells, Cononavirus, COVID-19, High Dose Vitamin C, inflammation, Integrative Oncology, Uncategorized on March 29, 2020 at 1:48 pm

Covid-19 begins and spreads like most other viruses. One person sneezes or coughs into the air and another inhales the droplets or it lands on their hands or face.  Hence, the recommendation is to stay at least 6 feet away from one another, social distancing. However, that container of milk, that banana in the store—well, we just don’t know. Therefore, consistant hand washing is recommended, as well as to keep your hands off your face to limit the risk of transporting the virus though your nose, eyes, or mouth.

We are all susceptible. The virus is in every community. But many have risk factors that can make Covid-19 even more dangerous. These can include a compromised immune system (such as with those with cancer), diabetes, a history of upper respiratory issues, or high blood pressure (and the damage to the heart and blood vessels it can cause.)

How the Virus Works

Based on how similar viruses works, it seems likely that once the virus’s particles enter the body, they attach to receptors on the surface of cells. Typically, this starts in the mucus membranes of the nose and throat. Spikey proteins on the surface of the virus latch onto cell membranes.  Essentially, the virus hijacks cells and starts replicating, making more copies and spreading throughout the body. Once the virus has attached enough cells, many people will develop symptoms.

Most often, a person first presents with upper respiratory symptoms.  Within a few days a person might develop a dry cough, fever, sore throat, aches, and fatigue.  In some cases, there is also a loss of taste and smell, and yet many will have no symptoms at all.

When the immune system recognizes the virus, it sends out cytokines to the site of infection. Cytokines are inflammatory molecules that can spin out of control with Covid-19. This inflammatory storm can cause a fever and sometimes lead to death.

Sometimes the inhaled droplets go right to the lungs. When the virus moves to the lungs, the immune system kicks in again at high gear, flooding the site with white blood cells. These secrete even more cytokines which increases the inflammation and can actually damage the lungs and make it difficult to breathe.

What distinguishes Covid-19 from other similar viruses is the frequency of pneumonia and in some cases, the abrupt onset of heart problems (sometimes leading to heart-failure). Pneumonia can lead to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) may set in, at which point a person may need a respirator.

According to Dr. David Price, Weill Cornell Medical Center, NYC, it takes 15-30 minutes of unprotected exposure to an infected person for the virus to take hold. He commented that while Covid-19 is no doubt in every community, you can protect yourself and your family by taking realistic precautions (hand washing, social distancing, not touching your face, wearing gloves). He also said that if you do develop Covid-19, in most cases, you can self-treat at home just as you would with other viruses. You need only go to the hospital if you have shortness of breath [or heart problems]. He also commented that only 10% of people will need to go to the hospital and that only 1% would need a ventilator. [i]

What You Can Do NOW: Food is Medicine

Importantly, there are various treatment options being studied and implemented, some of which show great promise. However, in my humble opinion, it is better to prevent than to need to treat. You can significantly reduce your risk by social distancing, staying home, diligently washing your hands, and keeping your hands away from your face.

Eat a nutrient-dense diet that includes adequate protein, sprouts, and antimicrobial foods such as garlic, onions, and ginger, herbs, and spices such as oregano, rosemary, and turmeric.

sproutsImportantly, while there is currently no research on the safety of eating raw produce purchased from your local market, the recommendation for those at higher risk to wash or cook all produce before consuming. However, for those of us who love and appreciate sprouts (which really cannot be washed well), I suggest you grow your own sprouts).  Fortunately, now it is easier than ever (no changing the water several times a day, just add water to the tray day one and done).  Order your own sprout kit. Tender herbs can also be easily grown, indoors or out.

Vitamin C supports healthy immune function and a healthy heart. At high doses, vitamin C switches from being an antioxidant to a pro-oxidant, supporting healthy heart and blood vessels. It is believed that 14-20 grams daily of vitamin C (liposomal and oral combined) may be an effective preventive dose. (Liposomal allows you to take high doses without bowel issues).

A good multivitamin, adequate vitamin D, zinc, selenium, probiotics, mushroom extracts, beta glucans, selenium, and astragalus will also help keep the immune system strong, helping to slow down the speed at which pathogens replicate and mutate.  Zinc and chaga mushroom inhibit the ability of viruses to reproduce and spread. Magnesium, fish or krill oil, vitamin E, and curcumin (turmeric) are natural anti-inflammatories. Antiviral colloidal silver, olive leaf extract, monolaurin, and lysine are also quite helpful.

Another less common supplement that you need to know about is Pao pereira. Often used to target cancer cells (including cancer stem cells), Pao pereira has strong immune-boosting and anti-inflammatory properties, which is important to protect the lungs.

According to the Beljanski Foundation, Pao pereira may help reduce viral load of Covid-19 and block the enzyme that replicates in the genome of the virus. Their research shows that Pao pereira helps support the body’s own immune and detoxification systems to eliminate or neutralize undesirable cells.  The recommended dose is 2 capsules, twice daily.  Buy Pao Pereira

Another supplement, RealBuild contains short RNA fragments (primers) that support the body’s immune system against the virus. The recommendation is one dose per week. Together, Pao Pereira and RealBuild offer strong defense against the ravages of RNA viruses such as Covid-19.  Buy RealBuild.

As researchers learn more and more about how Covid-19 attacks the body, we can use that information. Information is healthy, fear is not. Don’t let fear get the best of you. Eat well, take your supplements, engage in stress-lowering activities and practice other common-sense practices.

[Editor’s note] This post was originally published in February 2017. It has been updated and republished in March 2019

It is well known that cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and watercress contain powerful anticancer compounds. But did you know that eating their respective sprouts can supercharge the health benefits? Sprouts are high in vitamins C, A, and phytonutrients that support the immune system.

In sprout form these little three to four day old plants contain almost 100 times the level of cancer-fighting sulforaphane than the mature plants. The phytonutrients in these sprouts up-regulate antioxidant enzymes and detoxification processes which clear toxic compounds from the body. And, that is just the beginning—read on to find out how sprouts knock the socks off cancer.

 What’s in a Sprout

Isothiocyanates (ITCs), such as sulforaphane, are sulfur-containing compounds found in cruciferous vegetables. They support matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) activity which reduces the breakdown of connective tissue within a cell that impede the expansion of existing tumors. Matrix MMP-9 plays important roles in tumor invasion and angiogenesis. Secretion of MMP-9 has been reported in various cancer types including lung, colon, and breast cancer.

ITCs also kill off cancer cells, including cancer stem cells, which is essential for combating cancer metastases. Isothiocyanates restrain certain pro-inflammatory compounds that are associated with chronic inflammation and cancer.

The ITC sulforaphane helps support the anti-inflammatory Nrf2 pathway which protects cells against oxidative and free radical activity. It supports the detoxification process by inducing Phase 2 detoxification enzymes, inhibiting the activation of pro-carcinogens, and  by boosting cellular glutathione levels.  Sulforaphane promotes cancer cell death and inhibits cancer cell proliferation. It also supports the immune system and in particular, increases Natural Killer Cell activity.

Sulforaphane also inhibits Helicobacter pylori, the bacterium that increases one’s risk of stomach and colorectal cancer.  It is also anti-viral and has been found effective against the Epstein Barr Virus and may be helpful against Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Quercetin, another potent antioxidant highly concentrated in sprouts, is a strong anti-inflammatory and prevents tumor cell growth.  It also aids in the removal of excess estrogen from the body — it stimulates liver function to detoxify estrogen and other carcinogenic agents.

Lutein is another powerful antioxidant that neutralizes cancer-causing free radicals (it is also essential for many things, including eye health, protecting against macular degeneration, and for maintaining strong eye tissue). Lutein (and zeaxanthin) may be beneficial to cardio health by preventing hardening of the arteries.

Glutathione has been labeled the ‘mother of all antioxidants” due to its incredible ability to disarm free radicals, detoxify the body, and boost the immune system.

Broccoli Sprouts

broccoli-sproutsBroccoli sprouts are extremely high in cancer fighting activity, particularly against lung, colon, and breast cancers. Compounds in broccoli speed up the removal of estrogen from the body, helping to suppress breast cancer. They also target cancer stem cells, the cells responsible for metastasis.

Broccoli sprouts contain a high amount of the cancer-busting and immune boosting substance sulforaphane. They are also abundant in quercetin, glutathione, beta carotene, indoles, vitamin C, lutein, glucarate, and the metabolic substance DIM, which is a natural aromatase inhibitor.

Broccoli sprouts are rich in cholesterol reducing fiber and have anti-viral and anti-ulcer activity. They are also a super source of chromium that helps regulate insulin and blood sugar.

Watercress Sproutswatercress-sprouts

Sometimes called peppergrass, watercress is delicious and pungent. It is also one of the most nutrient-dense foods known. It is rich in beta-carotene and other carotenoids, including lutein. Watercress also offers significant quercetin, EGCG (Epigallocatechin Gallate), flavanols such a kaempferol, lycopene, indole-3 carbinol (13C), sulforaphane, as well as DIM. It is a good source of riboflavin, vitamin C, A and K, calcium, magnesium, vitamin E, and contains trace amounts of omega 3’s. Watercress is one of the best food sources of iodine for vegans.

Watercress also contains a high amount of PEITC (phenylethylisothiocyanate) which has been shown to protect DNA from damage. PEITC reduces the growth of breast cancer cells, triggers apoptosis (cancer cell death), and decreases angiogenesis. It inhibits the growth of HER2 expression as well as cancer metastasis.

PEITC (also found in some other cruciferous vegetables, including broccoli) deactivates mutant p53 in tumor cells but leaves normal p53 alone. P53 regulates cell division by keeping cells from growing and dividing too fast or in an uncontrolled way. A mutation in p53 is a permanent change in the nucleotide sequence of DNA. Loss of p53 function can be deleterious, and about 50% of all human cancers have a mutated p53 gene.

Watercress has antioxidant, antigenotoxic (the process by which chemical agents damage genetic information within a cell causing mutations), and anti-inflammatory properties.

Studies show that a regular intake of watercress has been associated with protection against breast, colon, and other cancers.

Watercress and broccoli affect all stages of cancer: initiation, proliferation, and metastasis. So, what’s not to love about these sprouts? Plus, it is a lot easier to consume a handful of sprouts than it is to down a pound and a half of broccoli or an enormous plate of watercress– which, for example,  is the amount it would take to get an equivalent amount of sulforaphane.

Add sprouts to your smoothies; use on sandwiches, on top of pizza, in salads, and as a garnish for soups. I make wonderful gluten-free pizza crusts using cauliflower or garbanzo bean flour, and pile the pizza high with arugula and sprouts just before serving.  Yum!

Just a reminder that while  eating cruciferous vegetables is a important for overall optimal health, it may support you during the COVID-19 pandemic. Choose to consume cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, Brussels sprouts, radish, and kale). It is necessary to have sufficient iodine in the diet when consuming high quantities  (including DIM).

Can’t find sprouts locally or worried about others handling your raw vegetables?  Grow your own. You can grow your own sprouts and now it is easier than ever (no changing the water several times a day, just add water to the tray day one and done. Here is my first tray of Hamama salad green sprouts.. Next up are broccoli sprouts.  Order your own Hamama sprout kit.

Energize the Lymphatic System and Bounce Cancer with Rebounding

In Alternative Cancer Therapies, Breast Cancer, Cancer, Cancer Coach, colon cancer, Cononavirus, COVID-19, Healing Cancer Naturally, Health Benefits of Rebounding, Integrative Oncology, prostate cancer, Uncategorized on March 24, 2020 at 2:06 pm

Rebounding energizes the lymphatic and immune systems to help fight cancer. A strong immune system keeps a vigilant eye out for bacteria, viruses, and mutated cells that may contribute to disease. A highly functioning lymphatic system carries these toxins away from cells and the bloodstream to facilitate elimination. Importantly, the lymphatic system gets a powerful boost from rebounding.

If you are not familiar with rebounding, it is the movement of bouncing, jumping, or dancing on a trampoline. Used indoors, this typically means a mini-trampoline. The vertical up and down movement of bouncing is particularly effective for keeping lymph fluid moving.

Cancer Cells and Detoxification

Cancer cells are created by the body every day. Our immune system has the important task of seeking out and destroying cancerous cells. Tumors often develop when a compromised immune system is unable to detect and remove these abnormal cells.

One of the reasons that cancer cells proliferate is the overload of toxic substances from our food, water, air, home and beauty products, paper products, and plastics (just to mention a few). Toxic build up without an effective means of detoxification can contribute to disease. Here’s where the lymphatic system comes into play.

The lymphatic system is the body’s inner “drainage system”. It carries fluids, along with bacteria, infections, and cancer cells.

The lymphatic system carries metabolic waste, toxins, and poisons from the cells and into the lymph fluid so the lymphocytes can eliminate them. Lymph surrounds cells throughout the body, collecting debris before draining it into the lymphatic system. The waste passes through many filters (lymph nodes) where specialized white blood cells called lymphocytes attack and eliminate the threat.  Lymphocytes are capable of detecting and destroying cancer cells and eradicating tumors.[i]

However, the lymphatic system is notoriously sluggish. When lymph remains sluggish, the lymph nodes become clogged and lose their filtering ability. Debris then becomes trapped, leading to toxic overload and contributing to the onset of cancer.

Rebounding has been found to activate lymphocytes and improve lymphatic circulation by stimulating the millions of one-way valves in the lymphatic system. Each bounce opens and closes these one-way valves between the lymphatic system and the cells.  While bouncing, toxins, poisons, and metabolic waste are pulled out of the cells into the lymph fluid, and oxygen and nutrients are pulled in the cells from the lymph fluid.  This supports the body’s immune capacity for fighting current disease, destroying cancer cells, eliminating antigens (such as toxins, bacteria, and virus that trigger an immune response) and preventing future illness.

A further benefit of rebounding is that by bouncing, white blood cells triple in number and remain elevated for an hour. These specialized cells play an important role in the body’s defense against illness and disease. Importantly, rebounding should be considered by anyone who has had nodes removed as they may have an even more sluggish system given the disruption in the system.

Rebounding has Many Health Benefits:

  • Alleviates stress
  • Improves mood (especially when you dance to music)
  • Strengthens the musculoskeletal system
  • Stimulates one-way valves to remove waste
  • Brings oxygen to cells, which may inhibit cancer
  • Increases capacity for respiration
  • Improves resting metabolic rate and may burn fat
  • Strengthens the heart muscle
  • Improves balance and endurance
  • Strengthens the pelvic floor and core
  • Improves lymphatic flow which helps escort toxins from the body
  • Strengthens bones
  • Is great exercise and fun!

It takes only two minutes of rebounding to flush the entire lymphatic system, while cleansing and strengthening cells and lymph nodes.[ii] Ideally, one would want to rebound for a few minutes, intermittently throughout the day. Doing this daily or at least a few times a week can be beneficial. For the purposes of exercise, 30-40 minutes daily could be helpful. As with other exercise programs, it is best to gradually increase time and intensity.

Rebounding doesn’t have to be expensive. You can find a few good ones on Amazon, such as the one I use by BCAN (40 inch)

Wonder Maxi Rebounder

Rebounding offers an excellent means of exercise when going outdoors or to the gym is not possible. Meanwhile, it helps to flush the lymphatic system, cleansing cells and nodes. When you jump, jog, dance, twist, and do jumping-jacks on a trampoline you can get your exercise and help your lymphatic system bounce cancer.

In your everlasting good health,

Elyn

Fighting COVID-19

In benefits of Yoga Nidra, Cononavirus, COVID, COVID-19, High Dose Vitamin C, Uncategorized on March 18, 2020 at 12:21 pm

[Editor’s note] This post has been updated.

Many have asked me just how Pao Pereira and  OnKobel-Pro® work against COVID-19. From what I have learned, they reduce the viral load and block the enzyme that replicates the genome of the virus. RealBuild and  IMMUNOBEL-Pro®are anti-inflammatories that boost the immune system and can be helpful for anyone undergoing or post chemo, surgery, or radio-therapy. They also help protect the lungs from the virus.

Many of us are monitoring the updates on the repercussions of the Coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19). The best antidote to fear is to be proactive. It is very important to safeguard your health by supporting your immune system in every way possible. This includes eating well and reducing stress. It also includes fighting the virus with supportive supplements that have immune-boosting, antiviral abilities.

My hope is that you and your loved ones are prepared for COVID-19. Below is some information from the Beljanski Foundation I hope you will find helpful. Pao periera ( from the bark of pao periera trees in the Amazonian rain forest), has potent anti-viral properties and is believed to target RNA viruses such as COVID-19. (Note, for those of my clients taking Onkobel for cancer, this contains pao periera.  Read more about Onkobel and cancer).

It is easy to get overwhelmed with COVID-19 and the related news. If you are glued to the television or struggling with the stress of COVID-19-related loss of income, it is important to know you are not alone. Balance the stress by doing things you enjoy.  Relax in the sun, read a book, paint, or do something else that suits you. Healthy outlets reduce the toxic stress load and boost the immune system.

Beyond the basics of eating well and getting enough exercise and sleep, consider deep breathing, meditation, yoga, and sound therapy. And please, get your tech devices out of your bedroom and off your body. Turn off all devices at least an hour before you plan to go to sleep.

Other anti-viral strategies include high-dose vitamin C (including IVC and liposomal C) as well as colloidal silver and olive leaf extract.

In your everlasting good health,

Elyn

~~If you don’t know your options, you don’t have any~~

The Beljanski Foundation is committed to providing support and timely information during this period of uncertainty and unknown. Over the next few days and weeks we will share recent scientific research in order to arm you with what you need to stay educated about what your immune system needs to stay healthy today and always.

To that end we want (below) to explain what we know about COVID-19. You will see tagged, related scientific research along with statements. Please take some time to read through as much as you can and reach out to us with any additional questions.

What does COVID-19 resemble?

As soon as studies reported that sequences in the coronavirus COVID-19 genome closely resemble those of the HIV virus (1) (2), pharmaceutical companies rushed to see how to “recycle” their stock of anti-HIV drugs and find a new application for their aging patents.

What will our bodies respond to?

Those who are looking for a natural and non-toxic approach to fighting the coronavirus outbreak will be happy to learn that in 1994, a clinical trial concluded the safety and effectiveness of the pao pereira extract (called the “PB 100” era by Dr. Mirko Beljanski and is now known as Pao V “FM”, in memory of former French President François Mitterrand. This product helped Mitterrand finish his second term, as reported by Dr. Gubler in his book – prohibited – “the Big Secret”). This clinical trial, the results of which were published (4), concluded that this natural extract had improved the immune status of an HIV positive population followed in the hospital for 12 months, and had been very well tolerated.

This result was hardly surprising, since it is a part of years of research conducted by Dr. Mirko Beljanski and his team on multiple RNA viruses, all treated with pao pereira.

Thanks to the work of The Beljanski Foundation, pao pereira’s activity on many cancers, including prostate (even metastasized), ovarian), pancreatic, and even on cancer stem cells responsible for metastases, has now been the topic of numerous pre-clinical studies and confirmed by many universities throughout the world.

What kind of virus is it?

However, pao pereira’s activity in the field of cancer should not, during this difficult period, make us forget its remarkable anti-viral properties on many RNA viruses. Remember, there is still a lot that we do not know about the Coronavirus COVID-19, and in particular its long-term effects, there is at least one thing that we know: it is an RNA virus.  Buy pao pereira.

UPDATE: Today during an interview with President Trumps COVID-19 task force in the Rose Garden, expert Dr Deborah Birx explained that for sure, COVID-19 is an RNA virus.
