Progesterone is vital to the female body, yet many women fear it. Progesterone is the key to many aspects of female health, and often thought of as one of the most important hormones. But most women have very low levels of progesterone which can result in estrogen dominance and can significantly increase one’s risk of breast cancer!

In short, estrogen and progesterone work in tandem. The former hormone helps cancerous cells flourish while the latter puts the brakes on cell growth and proliferation.

Why You NEED Progesterone

Progesterone is the precursor to other important hormones, including estrogen and testosterone. These hormones play a significant role in female health, influencing everything from cognitive function, menopause, fertility, helping the uterus to grow during pregnancy, normal breast development during puberty, and so much more, including breast cancer prevention. Importantly, the body depends on the right balance of these hormones in order to function properly.

“Estrogen can cause cells to grow or proliferate, but progesterone decreases proliferation/cell growth while encouraging cells to become more specialized or mature, so in effect, progesterone’s actions decrease cancer risk. When progesterone is present, its receptors make the estrogen receptor no longer able to cause breast cells to grow or proliferate.”[i] (The Centre for Menstrual Cycle and Ovulation Research). More on receptors below.

Natural progesterone is not to be feared. In fact, it is widely believed that estrogen can only fuel breast cancer in the absence of progesterone. In essence, progesterone puts the brakes on cell proliferation and growth. Estrogen should also not be feared and is actually essential for so many reasons (heart, bone, and eye health, etc.) The Important thing is to help your body metabolize estrogen properly so the body can use what it needs and excrete the excess ( a topic beyond the scope of this article).

The confusion about progesterone comes from studies using progestin (synthetic progesterone). Progestins are NOT the same thing as progesterone. But again, one of progesterone’s jobs is to decrease the risk for breast cancer. It does that by decreasing the proliferation often caused by excess estrogen.

Importantly, chemical estrogens (also known as xenoestrogens) such as BPA (bisphenol A) and other chemicals often found in home and personal care items are another story. They DO fuel breast cancer. For more information on the damages of BPA and BPS please read: BPA: The Bathroom Toxin that Fuels Breast Cancer.

Symptoms of Progesterone Deficiency Include:

  • Unexplained fatigue and low energy
  • Intense PMS symptoms such as cramps and moodiness
  • Dizziness
  • Difficultly sleeping
  • Irritability
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Fibrocystic breasts
  • Mood swings
  • Hot flashes
  • Low libido
  • Irregular menstrual cycles
  • Weight gain
  • Fibroids
  • Endometriosis
  • Thyroid dysfunction
  • Infertility and miscarriage
  • Uterine bleeding
  • Breast and other cancers

Some women have been progesterone-deficient most of their lives, whereas others find themselves in this predicament around age 45 or so, when the ovaries stop making the hormones estrogen and progesterone and turn the job over to the adrenals. Regardless, it is imperative that we increase progesterone if it is low and in turn, balance the hormones. Clearly the list above gives you enough reasons.

Raising Progesterone

Foods that can help raise progesterone include broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables, beans, and nuts. Supplements include magnesium, and vitamin E (mixed tocopherols). Chaste Tree (Vitex) can also stimulate progesterone. Activated B6 is necessary for the synthesis of progesterone and helps the liver to metabolize and break down estrogen (B6 can also available in food sources such as leafy greens, peppers, carrots, asparagus, broccoli, walnuts, eggs, sweet potatoes, and sunflower seeds. For the carnivores, you can find it in grass-fed beef and beef liver). Zinc supports the production and use of progesterone. A deficiency in zinc increases estrogen sensitivity and decreases the progesterone response.

Things that deplete progesterone are stress and excessive exercise (which cause the body to produce stress hormones instead of progesterone).

Importantly, too much zinc will deplete copper. While copper can promote cancer, the body does need just a bit. Cooper deficiency can cause extreme tiredness, elevated cholesterol, brittle bones, increase risk of infection, and more.

A Note About Bio-Identical Progesterone

It is important to understand the difference between progesterone that is made by the body or is molecularly similar to one’s own natural progesterone and synthetic progesterone, which has been molecularly altered. This is why many women opt for bio-identical progesterone.

However, as discussed in a previous article,  Could Aromatase Inhibitors Actually Increase One’s Risk for Breast Cancer prescription bio-identicals can be problematic. According to Dr Mache Seibel, M.D., author of The Estrogen Window, you must be careful with compounded bio-identicals. This is because sometimes the progesterone in compounded formulas can be 60-80% lower than ordered and estrogen 80-200% higher than ordered which can result in increased estrogen dominance. This could raise your risk of hormone-driven cancer.

Another option is bio-identical topical creams. There are a few good ones on the market, but one I use is Progesto-life. According to the instructions, you just rub a quarter teaspoon into your wrist or belly.

I strongly suggest you work with a qualified practitioner before beginning any type of bio-identical hormones. There is much we don’t know and some react differently than others. Please know that your oncologist might not be trained to discuss this with you.

Importantly, please do not confuse hormone levels with receptor status!

Hormones are your body’s chemical messengers. They travel in your bloodstream to tissues or organs to help them do their work.

Estrogen and progesterone receptors are proteins in cells that bind hormones and switch genes on and off, changing the cell’s behavior. Hormone receptor-positive breast cancers have many receptors, and the tumor cells become overly sensitive to estrogen. When estrogen activates the estrogen receptor, it signals the genes that tell the cells to keep dividing, driving tumor growth. However, when breast cancer cells have working progesterone receptors, and there is sufficient progesterone available, progesterone will slow down estrogen fueled growth and division of these cells.

The late John Lee, MD, author of What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Breast Cancer maintained that when activated by progesterone, its receptors attach themselves to estrogen receptors. This tells the genes that promote growth to pivot and instead promote the death of cancer cells.

A study published in the Dec 2016 edition of the journal Nature, led by Cambridge-based Cancer Research U.K. researcher Dr. Jason Carroll of the University of Adelaide in Australia found that progesterone –via the progesterone receptor– reprograms the estrogen receptor, causing the cells to stop growing as quickly. For more information, please read my article, Progesterone and Breast Cancer.

So, if you are ER and or PR positive it simply means you have receptors for these hormones. It does not mean you have high levels of either hormone. In fact, most doctors recommend tamoxifen or aromatase inhibitors without even testing hormone levels, which could be a big mistake (particularly in the case of aromatase inhibitors).

For those who have or have had TNBC (triple negative breast cancer), progesterone has been found to inhibit this type of cancer as well.

Natural Alternatives to Anti-Hormone Therapies for Breast Cancer: What your Doctor May Know but Cannot Recommend

In Alternative Cancer Therapies, Alternatives to Anti-Hormone Therapy For Breast Cancer, Alternatives to Hormone Therapy for Breast Cancer, Alternatives to Tamoxifen, Anticancer diet, Anticancer foods, foods for colon cancer, foods for breast cancer, aromatase inhibitors, Bio-Identical Hormones, BPA and breast cancer, Breast Cancer, Cancer, Cancer Coach, colon cancer, Estrogen, Estrogen and Breast Cancer, Healing Cancer Naturally, Hormone Balance, Natural Alternatives to Aromatase Inhibitors, SERMS, Tamoxifen, Uncategorized on April 27, 2021 at 2:12 pm

Natural alternatives to anti-hormone therapies have been well-known for a long time. Oncologists are often hesitant to recommend them as they are required to stick to the ‘standard of care’ (SOC), which limits them to drugs such as tamoxifen or aromatase inhibitors. That does not mean they are not aware that there are alternatives that can be as good or even better than pharmaceutical drugs. However, alternatives are typically not taught in medical school and your doctor may not feel comfortable in recommending them even if s/he could.

So, what can you do?

There are many things you can do to balance your hormones naturally and minimize the cancerous effects of your own estrogen and more importantly, the chemical estrogens in your world. Chemical estrogens (xeno-estrogens) may include but are not limited to chemicals such as BPA (bisphenol A) as would be found in beauty and home products, weed killers, insecticides, and pesticides (especially glyphosate). Oral contraceptives, cash register receipts, plastics, and paper products such as toilet paper and paper towels are also problematic. When too many of these aggressive estrogen molecules occupy estrogen receptor sites, this is when cancer can grow. The first and foremost thing to do is to get these things out of your life as much as possible. Buy organic foods, free of pesticides and GMOs whenever possible. Aim for a variety of 8-10 servings of vegetables and 2-4 servings of fruit daily. Limit processed and packaged foods and use only clean home and personal care products.

Certain nutrients, botanicals, and nutrient compounds impact the body’s ability to process toxins. Top choices are cruciferous vegetables, garlic, onions (red, white, chives, leeks, scallions, and shallots), parsley, leafy greens, turmeric, berries, lemon water, green tea, beets, flax seeds, and artichokes. Consume these regularly to support your body’s natural detoxification systems. Drinking pure water and sweating are very helpful too!

For information about helpful supplements for estrogen management and detoxification, visit the Supplement Page on my website or request my handouts.

The Role of Phytoestrogens

A number of nutrients, botanicals, and nutrient compounds have varying effects on the cancerous process. You may have been told by your doctor to avoid phytoestrogens (plant estrogens), but these substances can inhibit breast cancer! Phytoestrogens are plant compounds with a similar molecular shape and structure to endogenous estrogen molecules. Phytoestrogens such as flax and sesame seeds work like SERMS (selective estrogen receptor modulators) such as tamoxifen. They modulate the effects of estrogen in the body by connecting to their receptors (just as tamoxifen does) thus inhibiting cancer cell replication.

Seeds such as flax and sesame contain lignans, molecules that bind to estrogen receptors just like tamoxifen. Binding turns on, or activates, a hormone receptor. Activation sets in motion cell signaling systems that trigger gene expression. In other words, phytoestrogens are similar enough to estrogen that they can bind to estrogen receptors, but cancer cells cannot use them in the same way as your own natural estrogen or chemical estrogens (they are far less potent). Lignans activate far weaker than your own estrogen or chemical estrogens. What this means is that they cannot stimulate breast cells to divide. They ‘park’ on the estrogen receptors, essentially blocking harmful estrogens from being able to bind to that receptor and do the dirty deed.

Further, flax and sesame seeds reduce tumor growth by increasing cell death and decreasing angiogenesis (the growth of new blood vessels that allow cancer to advance). Flaxseed has also been found to knock down (inhibit) CYP1B1, an enzyme that plays a role in estrogen metabolism. CYP1B1 converts estrogen to the less favorable metabolites. CYP1B1 also tends to make environmental toxins more carcinogenic. It is expressed in ovarian, uterine, and breast tissues and is implicated in colon cancer as well.

Read more about the lignans in flax and sesame seed in my articles Demystifying Flaxseed and Estrogen and Gluten-Free Anticancer, Anti-inflammatory Seeded Flatbread.

Soy is another powerful phytoestrogen that only weakly interacts with receptors. Plus, for many people, the genistein in soy works hard to inhibit cancer growth factors. Soy is a bit more controversial as in some people it can interfere with thyroid function, so speak with your doctor before consuming it.

There are many other phytoestrogens that inhibit the estrogen-related cancerous process. I focused on the seeds and soy as the information on these can be confusing. Fennel, clove, citrus peels, clary sage, and myrrh are a few other good ones.

Natural Aromatase Inhibitors

For women who have an over-abundance of natural estrogen (again, often a result of toxin overload, imparied estrogen metabolism, and chronic stress), reducing aromatase might be helpful. However, it is not necessary to rely on pharmaceutical aromatase inhibitors (loaded with terrible side effects) to lower the production of aromatase (which produces estrogen). Eat foods such as button mushrooms, celery and parsley (rich in apigenin), rosemary, citrus peel, pumpkin seeds, and flaxseed. Supplements such as D3, DIM, vitamin K2, calcium D-glucarate, zinc, grapeseed extract, gingko biloba, myomin, chrysin, red wine, and sea cucumber are natural aromatase inhibitors as well.

Importantly, many women do not need to and should not reduce estrogen, particularly if they have extremely low levels. I caution you not to severely inhibit estrogen, either by holistic or pharmaceutical means. Low estrogen contributes to osteoporosis, heart disease, ocular damage[i], and so much more. Sadly, doctors often order aromatase inhibitors for people without even testing hormone levels.

That said, even if estrogen levels are low, it is still essential to metabolize and excrete estrogen, the way nature intended to be.

Of note, DIM helps with phase 1 liver detoxification, so the toxins and hormones will be broken down and eliminated. However, without an active phase ll pathway, these toxins could get recirculated in the body, rather than being eliminated. When you combine DIM (or Indole-3-carbinol) with sulforaphane and calcium D- glucarate, the nutrients help the liver complete the detox process and eliminate the excess estrogen from the body.

Estrogen is NOT always the Problem

All of that said, estrogen is NOT always the problem. Most people who suffer from hormone imbalance are deficient in progesterone. Progesterone sort of puts the brakes on estrogens’ cancerous activity. While you can use a progesterone cream or perhaps use bioidentical, I would encourage you to try to balance your hormones with diet and supplements.

Things that help raise progesterone are stress reduction, zinc, thyme, vitamin C, magnesium, cruciferous vegetables, vitamin E, Chaste Tree (Vitex), and activated B6 (also available in food sources such as leafy greens, peppers, carrots, asparagus, broccoli, walnuts, eggs, sweet potatoes, and sunflower seeds. For the carnivores, you can find it in grass-fed beef and beef liver). Activated B6 is necessary for the synthesis of progesterone. It is also necessary for the liver to metabolize and break down estrogen, which can help reduce estrogen dominance. You can find activated B6 here at Amazon or at your local drugstore.

Good info on progesterone in this article, Eternity: Quite Possibly the Best Bio-Identical Progesterone Cream

Estrogen Metabolism and Methylation

Estrogen metabolism and methylation play a role in hormone-sensitive cancers. To control the level of estrogen in the body, we need a way to break it down and eliminate it. This is mostly done by the liver, where enzymes create metabolites, known as catechol estrogens, that can either be favorable or less favorable for estrogen metabolism. Supplements such as DIM, Indole-3-Carbinol and Calcium-d-glucarate (not calcium) support healthy metabolism and elimination of estrogen. That said, not everything is right for everyone, so you may want to do some testing to see what works best for you.

A simple blood test is one option if you just want an idea of your hormone levels. However, because hormone levels vary day to day as well as throughout the day, a blood test may not accurately reflect hormone levels. It will also not provide information regarding methylation and pathways. But it is a start.

Saliva tests are another option, which are believed to test hormones at the cellular level, as opposed to the blood test with measures the level of hormones circulating in the blood stream. You can purchase home kits. See my supplement page if you need recommendations.

The Dutch Test can give you a baseline measurement of hormonal imbalances. It will show you what your estrogen profile looks like and what pathway the estrogens are headed down. Among a lot of other things, it will show methylation and even if things such as DIM, for example, are working for you or against you. For more information see their website.

The Nutrition Genome Test looks at the genetic gene mutations (inherited DNA alterations) you may have been born with that could be affecting estrogen metabolism and driving the growth of cancer.

For example, COMT is a gene that plays a role in methylation and estrogen metabolism. If you have variants of this gene, you might have sluggish methylation. However, it does not affect everyone the same way and can be driven by diet and lifestyle choices, stress, and exposure to environmental toxins such as cigarette smoke. ‘Healthy’ things such as quercetin, resveratrol, cilantro, green tea, and others can further slow COMT in some people and may need to be avoided. The supplement SAMe can help those with COMT, depending on your genetic makeup.

Genomic testing, like many other ‘tests’ is not right for everyone. If you believe you will be super-stressed by finding out what SNPs you have (DNA variants) then you might want to skip the tests. Most variants are quite common, so don’t freak out if you have one or even all of the variants linked to cancer. Lots of things are linked to cancer.

Our gut, brain, and bodies in general are often the most powerful test. Listen to your gut –it is trying to tell you something. Connect with yourself and do not go with what others are doing just for the sake of following the crowd.

Importantly, our genes are NOT our destiny. It is how we ‘talk’ to them that matters. We ‘talk’ to your genes with thoughts and food choices. A great read on this is Dr Mitch Gaynor’s’ The Gene Therapy Plan: Taking Control of Your Genetic Destiny with Diet and Lifestyle.

Keep that Estrogen Moving!

Estrogen that has been metabolized and is ready to be eliminated through feces can be recycled back into circulation either due to chronic constipation or an interaction with certain bacteria in the gut, such as beta-glucuronidase. Calcium d-glucarate suppresses beta-glucuronidase helping you excrete the estrogen metabolites. Adding more fruits and vegetables may help ease constipation.

So, you can see that estrogen is far more complicated with respect to its role in cancer than you may have been led to believe. Hormones can be very confusing!! Importantly, estrogen and progesterone levels are not to be confused with receptor status!!! For more clarification on that, visit me in my private Facebook group Cancer Coach Elyn as I post on this often, or schedule a consult with me.

There are many more substances that improve hormonal balance, stimulate the livers’ detoxification systems, and inhibit cellular proliferation, but if I listed them all this post would get too long. But, blocking estrogen is not the most important factor for many breast cancer patients. Addressing the cancerous terrain that may have allowed cancer to present is crucial. Chronic inflammation, GMOs, emotional and environmental toxins, viruses, obesity, and other factors are all involved.

Cato, the Oracle Channeler and Medium Healer

In Alternative Cancer Therapies, Cancer, Cancer Coach, Emotional Healing, Energy Healers, Healing Cancer Naturally, insomnia, Mind Body Therapies for Cancer, Uncategorized on March 9, 2021 at 12:28 pm

Cato is a clairvoyant healer and medical medium. This means he can see within your body and do body scans, and he can do this while you are asleep or even unconscious. In fact, most often the client is completely unaware that the healing is taking place until he or she wakes up. Healing can address a plethora of conditions, including hormone imbalances, emotional traumas, inflammation, toxin accumulations, muscle damage, and more.

If you are open to healing, you just might be surprised with the results. Years ago, I was a sceptic of healers, and the idea put me out of my comfort zone. It wasn’t until I went to a wellness conference and saw they had an energy healer onsite. I was suddenly drawn to him, as if he was meant for me, right then and there. I knew it was what I needed. I still remember the twinkle in my oncologist’s eyes (he happed to be speaking that day) when I said I was going to do a session — he was so happy. After that session, I jumped in headfirst. I went on to work with him and four other healers and I benefitted from each one. They worked on my mind, body, and spirit. I eventually narrowed my list down (for financial reasons, time constraints, and needs). Some have moved on, so I am grateful for Cato.

Cato, The Medium Healer

I genuinely believe that everything happens for a reason. I ‘found’ Cato as I had had an accident and was mourning the loss of my dear friend and healer April Fontana, who I knew could help me. I was drawn to her Facebook page and found a new healer, Cato. While April is still with me in spirit, Cato is present here on Earth. I rely on them both and am grateful to have been introduced to Cato.

Regarding my ‘accident’, I managed to trip outside one icy morning. I made a full faceplant onto the pavement, with my teeth cutting up my upper lip area, severing the muscle between the upper lip and nose. Five stitches later in my mouth and lots of steri strips on the outside, I was miserable. That and my right knee took some of the brunt, was cut up, bruised, and swelling—a lot. Bending it was not an option and I was seriously limping around. My healing was done at night and when I woke up, I felt significantly better. A little follow-up tweaking improved things even more.

What was remarkable too was that the healing helped me sleep. I am a terrible sleeper and being in pain and discomfort surely doesn’t make it any easier.  Cato put me in the healing chamber (Ancestral Chamber), and I slept so much better. Basically, what transpired is that April and my spirit guides (we all have them) stimulated my brain so I could sleep better. They all told me I needed more rest, can’t argue with that.

The Ancestral Chamber opens a dialogue with your spirit guides who will take part in a healing overnight. They can tap energy directly from you when needed and distribute it to certain areas of your body where you would benefit the most.

Cato asked me about my medical history as my guides had a lot to share. He said that my guides very much wanted to communicate with me. They said that my recent accidents (yeah, more than one) and physical pains (ongoing) had been happening because I was meant to slow down a little and take better care of myself emotionally and physically. It is true that often the physical improves when the emotionally improves.

Cato also balanced my vitamins and minerals. He offers spiritual guidance as well.

  • Tools to break bad patterns.
  • Help dealing with loss of loved ones.
  • A new outlook on life once you know the truth about life and why you are here.
  • Achieving self-forgiveness that has dragged you down for years,
  • How to reach your goals and find the purpose in life that you have been seeking.
  • Empowerment in knowing the so-called big picture can put things in perspective and help to increase your positive vibrations. This activates you to stay healthy and to not be as open to disease, viruses, and other interference.

I had a difficult time accepting and getting through the loss I felt when April passed. However, April is one of Cato’s spirit guides. He was meant to be here for us in the present and can connect us to our beloved April. Please know that healing is not for everyone and we all react to it differently.

For those dealing with a serious health issue, it is comforting to know that to work with Cato you don’t have to go to yet another appointment or set aside more of your time. He does, however, offer on-the-phone healing if you prefer. To learn more about Cato and healing, please visit his website, www.themediumhealer.com.

Fiber and Butyric Acid: What you Need to Know if you Have Cancer

In Alternative Cancer Therapies, Anticancer diet, Anticancer foods, foods for colon cancer, foods for breast cancer, Breast Cancer, Cancer, Cancer Coach, colon cancer, Estrogen and Breast Cancer, Healing Cancer Naturally, Hormone Balance, inflammation, prostate cancer, Uncategorized on January 26, 2021 at 7:07 am

Likely you have heard that eating a fiber-rich diet is good for your digestion and overall health, including gut health. A higher intake of dietary fiber has been found to increase the amount of butyric acid (butyrate) the gut produces. Butyric acid supports healthy digestion, the gut and microbiome, and reduces inflammation, all of which may help reduce the risk of various cancers. Excitingly, butyric acid also directly inhibits the growth of cancer cell development and growth.

What is Butyric Acid (BA)?

Butyric acid is saturated short-chain fatty acid with numerous health benefits. Increasing butyrate acid feeds the cells of your colon and improves the function of your digestive system. BA is created when the good bacteria in your gut break down dietary fiber. It is also found in animal fats and vegetable oils.

Much research point to butyric acid’s ability to help prevent or even help treat colon, breast, prostate, and other cancers.[i] It is recognized by the R.G.C.C test (aka the Greek test) as a cytotoxic agent.

Studies have found that BA blocks the growth of cancer cells and increases the rate of cancer cell death (apoptosis). It inhibits an enzyme called histone deacetylase, which is produced in most cancers. Inhibiting histone deacetylase initiates apoptosis, putting the brakes on cancer cell development and growth.

BA also halts some of the pro-inflammatory processes, which reduces oxidative stress and controls the damage caused by free radicals. More butyrate means less inflammation. The throes of inflammation have been linked to most, if not all, chronic diseases, including cancer.

Excess cortisol (stress hormone) is often produced when there is digestive stress. Cortisol triggers to release glucose into the blood, but cancerous tumors ignore this signal. As a result, excess cortisol tends to feed tumor cells. Cortisol also suppresses immune function, including natural killer cell count and activity, and thus interferes with the immune system’s ability to respond to cancer cells.[ii]

A high fiber diets encourages butyrate-producing bacteria in your colon to thrive, which preserves the integrity of your gut lining, protecting against leaky gut (with a bonus that it reduces bloat and gas), and reduces digestive stress. Gut bacteria also aid with the metabolism of estrogens, especially those associated with breast, ovarian, and thyroid cancers.[iii]

BA also help manage blood sugar levels and may help prevent weight gain, another two factors that influence cancer growth.

Anticancer Benefits of Butyric Acid:

  • Anti-tumor properties
  • Inhibits cancer development and growth
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Supports the integrity of your gut lining, repairing and protecting against leaky gut
  • Improves insulin resistance and manages blood sugar leves
  • Regulates hunger and satiety, and helps maintain a healthy weight
  • Supports immune function
  • Aids in the metabolism of estrogens

ow to Incorporate Butyric Acid into Your Diet

Butter and ghee are two of the best dietary sources of butyric acid. Some cheeses (such as Parmesan) contain this as well. Conversely, diets high in processed foods and low in fiber can disrupt butyrate production.

Good Sources of Butyric Acid:

  • Ghee
  • Butter
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Red meat
  • Sauerkraut
  • Goat, cow, and sheep’s milk

However, the amount of butyric acid found in foods like butter and ghee (probably the richest source) is small compared to the amount that can be made in your gut. Increasing your dietary fiber intake will help boost the amount of butyric acid produced in your gut. Something known as resistant starch feeds the friendly bacteria in your gut and increases the production of butyrate acid.

Resistant starch (RS) is starch that is resistant to digestion, and functions kind of like soluble fiber. As the fibers in resistant starch ferment, they act as a prebiotic and feed the good bacteria in the gut. The bacteria in your gut depend on the resistant starches that your body cannot break down. RS not only benefits digestion, but improves insulin sensitivity, lowers blood sugar levels, and reduces appetite.

RS can be found in fiber-rich fruit, whole grains, legumes, and some vegetables such as Jerusalem artichokes and cooked (and cooled) potatoes. Cooking and then cooling starchy foods such as potatoes increases the resistant starch content (it is fine to reheat them after they have cooled for a few hours or overnight).

Good Sources of Prebiotics and Resistant Starch:

  • Artichokes
  • Jerusalem artichokes
  • Garlic
  • Onions
  • Asparagus
  • Chicory root
  • Potatoes (when cooked and cooled)
  • Bananas (under ripe)
  • Apples
  • Carrots
  • Oat bran
  • Beans

While it best to help your gut make its own butyric acid, you can complement this with a supplement – especially if your diet is less than optimal or if you have cancer and would like a bit more support.

Calcium-magnesium butyrate works well for most people. Sodium butyrate and sodium-potassium butyrate may be good choices for serious athletes or others who lose a significant amount of sodium through sweat. Sodium butyrate is not a good choice for those with sodium-sensitive hypertension.  The recommended dosage is 150-300 mg per day.

Cellular Healing: The Often-Overlooked Remedy for Chronic Disease

In Alternative Cancer Therapies, Breast Cancer, Cancer, Cancer Coach, Energy Healers, Healing Cancer Naturally, Integrative Oncology, Mind Body Therapies for Cancer, Uncategorized on October 20, 2020 at 5:56 am

Healers are amazing souls. I am a strong believer in the power of healers- so gifted in their ability to address many chronic diseases. Some are energy healers, and others are psychic surgeons, masters of the Emotion Code, or extremely talented and Reiki healers who administer healing by “laying on hands”, but also without touch and even remotely.  These people are all truly gifted. The healer I would like to highlight today is Mike Carey, who has been given a unique gift to be able to tap into cellular memory to find the cause of health issues and the natural remedies to resolve them.

What is Cellular Memory?

Cellular memory and the electricity of the body can be used to determine the cause and the natural remedy for many chronic diseases. It is a library storehouse of everything that has ever happened to you in your life, and the key to your healing.

Asking the body questions is a way of accessing that memory.  It can be done verbally, or by just thinking the question, because thoughts are a frequency as well as voice, and frequencies travel through the air or over the phone line. The body responds to the frequency of the question and it also responds to the frequency of the products used to correct the health problem. It allows healers to tap in and discover anything about you on a physical, emotional or energetic level, or to tap into your subconscious mind right down to a cellular level.

Healing the Body with Frequencies

I first met Mike over seven years ago when he healed me of several issues by tapping into my cellular memory. Since then he has found that frequencies are the key. They travel at the speed of light (186,000 miles per second) so he can treat people almost instantly, anywhere in the world by putting the frequency of the needed remedy right into their cells. For example, it used to take 5-7 days to rebuild the adrenal glands when a person has adrenal exhaustion.  Now, it takes about 30-40 minutes. To fix an Occipital bone that is out used to take 2 days. Now it takes 2 minutes.

Healer Mike Carey

Mike also discovered he can do second level testing and treating, which basically means he can test and treat people through them because the body knows its frequency. This is great, especially for people who might not be open to working with healers (which often prohibits healing as energy is blocked). People can be tested and treated without them even knowing it. What an incredible gift. I find it all so fascinating.

Mike can do the testing over the phone via his toll-free number (from the US and Canada) or via Skype. This is possible because everything in the universe works by electricity and frequencies, including your body and phone.  Frequencies also travel through the air or we would not have GPS, WIFI, or those little key fobs that open your car door. To clarify, Mike first has to hear a person’s voice on the phone or in person in order to test them. When that happens, his body records the frequency of their body and then after that, he can test them by email. He has been doing this type of testing for the over 30 years.

For more information, please visit Mike’s website: https://www.alternativesolutions4health.info/

Please be sure to read his “Little Known Amazing Health Facts”, which I found fun and enlightening to read.

Affirmations and Cancer Survival

In Affirmations, Alternative Cancer Therapies, Cancer, Cancer Coach, Emotional Healing, Healing Cancer Naturally, Integrative Oncology, Uncategorized on March 25, 2020 at 11:39 am

Affirmations are positive statements that can help you achieve success in anything, including surviving cancer.  Affirmations offer a powerful way to regain a peaceful state of mind. Daily affirmations have the power to improve your mindset and positively affect your cancer survival.

Gloria Gaynor and Elyn CGI

Elyn Jacobs and Gloria Gaynor at the 2013 Clinton Global Initiative

While jumping on my trampoline (rebounding) to the tune of Gloria Gaynor’s  “I Will Survive”, I thought about how appropriate the song is for those healing from cancer. “I Will Survive” is a powerfully strong affirmation.

“I Will Survive” wasn’t written for those with cancer.  The song seems to be about dumping an undesirable past lover.  But actually,  “I Will Survive” is about perseverance. At the time, Gaynor was in a back brace, recovering from surgery after an stage accident left her paralyzed from the waist down.  (Her mother had also recently passed away).  According to Gaynor, she related her situation to the song and she thought others would do the same. Many of the lyrics in “I Will Survive” impart powerful affirmations for cancer patients and for anyone facing a difficult situation.

Gaynor first speaks of being petrified and feeling sorry for herself, something many who have just been diagnosed with cancer go through. One could make good use of the lyrics. Telling the cancer to go away: “Go on now, go, walk out the door. Just turn around now, cause you’re not welcome anymore.  She sings about finding the strength she needed, and of course, states with conviction “I Will Survive”.

Cancer is really more of a symptom than a disease. If we can resolve the reasons for the cancer, we have a good chance of healing from it.  I am not suggesting one can just tell cancer to go away. I know that declaring you will survive does not simply make that happen. But being confident in your choices for healing and affirming your conviction that you will survive your cancer can make a huge difference.

Affirmations can help you survive your cancer.

“I Will Survive” is fun to dance to, on or off the trampoline.  Both activities are uplifting, and rebounding has numerous health benefits.  I highly recommend rebounding to all, but particularly for anyone who has had lymph nodes removed. Don’t have a trampoline? Crank up the music and dance. As for affirmations, they too are helpful for everyone–not only for those with cancer, but in this time of uncertainty.

From “I Will Survive”:

“At first I was afraid, I was petrified..

Go on now, go, walk out the door
Just turn around now
‘Cause you’re not welcome anymore

Do you think I’d crumble
Did you think I’d lay down and die?

Oh no, not I, I will survive
Oh, as long as I know how to love, I know I’ll stay alive
I’ve got all my life to live
And I’ve got all my love to give and I’ll survive
I will survive, hey, hey

It took all the strength I had not to fall apart

And I spent oh-so many nights just feeling sorry for myself
I used to cry
But now I hold my head up high and you see me
Somebody new

Go on now, go, walk out the door
Just turn around now
‘Cause you’re not welcome anymore

Do you think I’d crumble
Did you think I’d lay down and die?

Oh no, not I, I will survive”

Energize the Lymphatic System and Bounce Cancer with Rebounding

In Alternative Cancer Therapies, Breast Cancer, Cancer, Cancer Coach, colon cancer, Cononavirus, COVID-19, Healing Cancer Naturally, Health Benefits of Rebounding, Integrative Oncology, prostate cancer, Uncategorized on March 24, 2020 at 2:06 pm

Rebounding energizes the lymphatic and immune systems to help fight cancer. A strong immune system keeps a vigilant eye out for bacteria, viruses, and mutated cells that may contribute to disease. A highly functioning lymphatic system carries these toxins away from cells and the bloodstream to facilitate elimination. Importantly, the lymphatic system gets a powerful boost from rebounding.

If you are not familiar with rebounding, it is the movement of bouncing, jumping, or dancing on a trampoline. Used indoors, this typically means a mini-trampoline. The vertical up and down movement of bouncing is particularly effective for keeping lymph fluid moving.

Cancer Cells and Detoxification

Cancer cells are created by the body every day. Our immune system has the important task of seeking out and destroying cancerous cells. Tumors often develop when a compromised immune system is unable to detect and remove these abnormal cells.

One of the reasons that cancer cells proliferate is the overload of toxic substances from our food, water, air, home and beauty products, paper products, and plastics (just to mention a few). Toxic build up without an effective means of detoxification can contribute to disease. Here’s where the lymphatic system comes into play.

The lymphatic system is the body’s inner “drainage system”. It carries fluids, along with bacteria, infections, and cancer cells.

The lymphatic system carries metabolic waste, toxins, and poisons from the cells and into the lymph fluid so the lymphocytes can eliminate them. Lymph surrounds cells throughout the body, collecting debris before draining it into the lymphatic system. The waste passes through many filters (lymph nodes) where specialized white blood cells called lymphocytes attack and eliminate the threat.  Lymphocytes are capable of detecting and destroying cancer cells and eradicating tumors.[i]

However, the lymphatic system is notoriously sluggish. When lymph remains sluggish, the lymph nodes become clogged and lose their filtering ability. Debris then becomes trapped, leading to toxic overload and contributing to the onset of cancer.

Rebounding has been found to activate lymphocytes and improve lymphatic circulation by stimulating the millions of one-way valves in the lymphatic system. Each bounce opens and closes these one-way valves between the lymphatic system and the cells.  While bouncing, toxins, poisons, and metabolic waste are pulled out of the cells into the lymph fluid, and oxygen and nutrients are pulled in the cells from the lymph fluid.  This supports the body’s immune capacity for fighting current disease, destroying cancer cells, eliminating antigens (such as toxins, bacteria, and virus that trigger an immune response) and preventing future illness.

A further benefit of rebounding is that by bouncing, white blood cells triple in number and remain elevated for an hour. These specialized cells play an important role in the body’s defense against illness and disease. Importantly, rebounding should be considered by anyone who has had nodes removed as they may have an even more sluggish system given the disruption in the system.

Rebounding has Many Health Benefits:

  • Alleviates stress
  • Improves mood (especially when you dance to music)
  • Strengthens the musculoskeletal system
  • Stimulates one-way valves to remove waste
  • Brings oxygen to cells, which may inhibit cancer
  • Increases capacity for respiration
  • Improves resting metabolic rate and may burn fat
  • Strengthens the heart muscle
  • Improves balance and endurance
  • Strengthens the pelvic floor and core
  • Improves lymphatic flow which helps escort toxins from the body
  • Strengthens bones
  • Is great exercise and fun!

It takes only two minutes of rebounding to flush the entire lymphatic system, while cleansing and strengthening cells and lymph nodes.[ii] Ideally, one would want to rebound for a few minutes, intermittently throughout the day. Doing this daily or at least a few times a week can be beneficial. For the purposes of exercise, 30-40 minutes daily could be helpful. As with other exercise programs, it is best to gradually increase time and intensity.

Rebounding doesn’t have to be expensive. You can find a few good ones on Amazon, such as the one I use by BCAN (40 inch)

https://amzn.to/2y7gRvB

Wonder Maxi Rebounder

Rebounding offers an excellent means of exercise when going outdoors or to the gym is not possible. Meanwhile, it helps to flush the lymphatic system, cleansing cells and nodes. When you jump, jog, dance, twist, and do jumping-jacks on a trampoline you can get your exercise and help your lymphatic system bounce cancer.

In your everlasting good health,

Elyn

Why Cancer Returns

In Affirmations, Alternative Cancer Therapies, Books for Cancer Patients, Breast Cancer, Cancer, Cancer Coach, cancer stem cells, chemotherapy, Emotional Healing, Energy Healers, Epstein-Barr Virus, Healing Cancer Naturally, Mind Body Therapies for Cancer, Uncategorized on February 10, 2020 at 2:54 pm

Cancer returns because treating cancer typically does not resolve the reasons for the cancer

Cancer returns because often the treatments for cancer spread the cancer.

Cancer returns because your MIND could be making you sick or believes you want to be sick.

Cancer Treatment Does Not Resolve the Reasons for the Cancer

German scientist and physician R.G. Hamer, founder of Germanic New Medicine, did considerable research in the field of psychosomatic cancer therapy. He examined some 20,000 cancer patients with all types of cancer and discovered that every cancer in the body has a different emotional cause. He believed that cancer occurs when an individual suppresses for long periods toxic negative emotions (primarily anger, hate, resentment and grief). This creates cell changes within the body leading to cancer.  There is a strong correlation between emotional patterns and the progression of cancer.

“Cancer does not begin in the body; cancer begins in the brain  R.G.Hamer

The power of repressed emotions, anger, and resentment as well as a lack of self-love is not to be overlooked in the creating and healing of our cancer. Emotional challenges can develop into physical ones. Emotions not expressed in words or actions find expression in physical ailments.

When I discuss the past with my clients, there is always the ‘ah-ha’ moment when he or she looks at me and says “yep, that’s me”, and this applies to cancers across the board. So much of healing comes from inside, by healing past hurts. It is therefore critical to uncover and release these toxic negative emotions (or relationships) in order to heal  and reduce the risk of the return of cancer.

There are many ways to heal the mind. EFT tapping, EMDR, psychotherapy, the Emotion Code and the Healing Code are a few suggestions.

           Epstein Barr Reactivation and Cancer

Scientists now know how viruses such as Epstein Barr (EBV) reprogram healthy cells into cancer cells. It has become clear that EBV is involved with most cancers, especially for those who have impaired immune system (if you have cancer, that is likely the case). It seems that a protein component of the virus itself (Latent Membrane Protein 2A) promotes the development of cancer.[i] EBV infects the cell-signally mechanism of B cells. As a result, these cells have a greater chance of transforming into cancer cells.[ii]

Thankfully, more and more oncologists are now testing for EBV reactivation. If yours has not, you might request it and follow the recommendations on my EBV page.

Cancer Treatments Spread Cancer

Cancer Surgery

Although surgical removal of tumors can reduce tumor load, it has long been acknowledged that the surgery itself may precipitate or accelerate tumor recurrence.

Cancer surgery can be curative in some cases, but other times it can actually activate tiny, distant tumors that had been held in check by the immune system. (Note: biopsies can also spread cancerous cells). In many cases micrometastases from a primary tumor have traveled long before that tumor was detected.

Therefore when your surgeon says “We got it all”, that might not be the case.

“Surgery promotes the growth of micrometastatic and residual disease.”[vii]

Metastatic cancer cells that leave the primary tumor can form clinically undetectable micrometastases at distant sites. A study published in Science Translational Medicine found that “About 35% of women diagnosed with breast cancer already have thousands of micrometastases, but only half of them eventually develop metastatic, life-threatening cancer.”[iii] In those who do not go on to develop metastatic breast cancer, the body’s cell-killing white blood cells known as CD8+T cells have been able to eliminate the cancerous cells.

The researchers found that “surgical wounding”, either through biopsy or surgery, can promote the growth of these metastasized cancer cells. The scientists labeled this as “surgery-driven interruption of dormancy in breast cancer.”[iv]They found that surgical wounding triggers a substantial increase in the outgrowth of previously immunologically restricted tumors. Their results indicate that systemic inflammation initiated as part of the wound-healing process contributes to distant recurrence.

The research, performed at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Department of Surgery, concluded that “Surgery which is intended to be a curative option to remove and reduce tumor mass, can paradoxically also augment development of metastases.”[vi]

As a cancer and wellness coach, I can not advocate for taking damaging NSAIDS or aspirin used in the study (aspirin being the lesser of the two evils, but taken routinely can damage the stomach lining). There are many non-toxic, safer ways to target inflammation and help prevent the immune system from letting down its anti-cancer guard (such as curcumin, but a comprehensive protocol would be optimal).

 Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy

While doctors often recommend chemo and radiation to target stray cancer cells, they are toxic to healthy cells. Further, increasing evidence suggests that chemotherapy and radiation can promote cancer, fueling metastasis and making malignant cancer stem cells (CSCs) more aggressive.[viii]

Cancer stem cells are virtually resistant to chemo and radiation, and are often responsible for drug resistance, tumor recurrence, and the progression of cancer.

Normal stem cells are capable of self-renewal and multi-differentiation. Cancer stem cells are no different. They have the ability to reconstitute tumors and proliferate slowly. Cancer recurrence and progression are often due to the fact that therapies are aimed at the tumor bulk without targeting CSCs. [ix]  (For more information, including recommendations for targeting CSCs, see my articles on CSCs, links to which are in the footnotes below).

The Mind is the Healer, The Mind is the Killer

No matter what you believe in, know this — the mind is powerful.

Having faith in your chosen therapy is very, very important. Whether it is chemo, radiation or any of the plethora of holistic remedies, you must believe in it and do it 100%. If you allow fear to get the better of you, if you are in a state of panic, it is almost impossible to make good choices. Importantly, if you remain in a state of panic, it will not matter what therapy you choose, the cancer may win.

The worst scenario is when there is doubt and becoming overwhelmed by all the choices. Choose something and just DO IT. People who jump from one thing to another just end up in a perpetual state of anxiety, and the result is rarely good.

The late Dr. Nicolas Gonzalez wrote an excellent article Four Reasons Why Cancer Patients Routinely Die. He spoke about how panic, inability to make a decision, the Myth of Authority, and the Myth of Credentials make it very difficult to survive.[x] I cannot stress how important it is to choose a treatment plan and believe in it.

“The Mind is the Healer, The Mind is the Killer”  Ze’ev Kolman

The mind is more powerful than the body. The cancer may return because the mind believes you want to be sick.

The Mind is the Healer the Mind is the KillerHealer Ze’ev Kolman wrote the book, The Mind is the Healer, The Mind is the Killer. In it he details how the mind can heal you and how the mind can destroy you. Everything you think, say, and write makes a difference in your healing. Say and think only positive thoughts, affirm that you are happy, healthy, and worthy of love.

Even cancer lingo can hinder life. For example, the word ‘remission’ implies you are expecting the cancer to return. When you focus on recurrence, cancer has a better chance to revisit you. When you believe you can heal, or  have healed, you have a better chance of doing so. Conversely, if you believe you will not survive, likely you will not.

There are many reasons why cancer returns. Cancer is not a battle, we don’t ‘fight’ cancer or conquer it.  We heal from it. We make the necessary changes and correct the imbalances to alter the terrain to one inhospitable to cancer.

As Albert Einstein so correctly said, you can’t keep doing the same things and expect different results. Cleaning up our diet, detoxifying, and avoiding cancer-promoting substances and activities is critical. However, it is not always about what you are eating, but what is eating you. Emotional toxins, fear, and past traumas are often the issue and can be the biggest hurdle.

So what can you do about your mind, CSCs and mircomets from surgery? There are plenty of supplements and foods that improve immune function and target cancerous cells. Healers and therapists can help with the traumas (see the suggestions above). If you would like to discuss your options to reduce the risk of your cancer returning, please request a consult.

In your everlasting good health,

Elyn
