Salicinium, the Trojan Horse for Cancer Cells

In Alternative Cancer Therapies, Alternatives Cancer Treatment, Breast Cancer, Cancer, Cancer Coach, Cell Phones, chemotherapy, EMF Radiation, EMFs and breast cancer, Epstein Barr and Cancer, Salicinium and Cancer, Uncategorized on February 29, 2024 at 3:51 pm

Last week I attended the annual Annie Appleseed conference, an amazing conference to educate people on the benefits of Alternative and Complementary Cancer Treatments. One of the treatments I was eager to learn more about is Salicinium, something many have referred to as the “Trojan horse for cancer cells.” [1]

Among the literature provided at the conference was an article published in the Townsend Letter, the Examiner of Alternative Medicine, “Salicinium Clinical Pearls and Caveats”. I encourage you to read the article in full as it gives valuable information on Salicinium as well as the methods of administration and other important information.

For clarity, Salicinium does not kill malignant cells, it helps the immune system to do this by increasing natural killer (NK) cells. It seems to destroy the enzymatic ‘cloak’ which allows cancer cells to hide from the NK cells. Salicinium can be used as an Integrative therapy to allopathic treatments.

Something else I would like to point out is that according to the author, “due to the metabolic effects on other sick cells that predispose a patient to developing or perpetuating cancer, Salicinium is an effective adjuvant for patients with EBV, HPV, HSV, parasites, fungus, and candida.” This is very important as unbeknownst to many, these often play an integral role in the development and progression of cancer (see my page on EBV (Epstein Barr Virus).

Importantly, according to the article, Salicinium can cross the blood-brain barrier. “One of the mechanisms suggested for the persistence of a high incidence of brain metastases is the failure to cross the blood–brain barrier of most chemotherapeutic agents, including the more recent targeted therapies.”[2] Most pharmaceutical anticancer drugs do not cross the blood–brain barrier (BBB), and many metastatic patients die from brain metastases. The treatment of brain metastases remains a major therapeutic challenge since other standard treatments (surgery, radiation therapy) are also of limited benefit.

“There is increasing discontent on the part of patients and families when faced with these choices. With the instances of cancer being so high in the population, it seems everyone knows several people who have cancer; and many have watched their friends and family suffer and die on traditional regimens. A week does not pass when I interview a new patient who tells me of someone they know who died after the first dose of chemotherapy or was told “your only hope is to receive chemotherapy until you die.’ Thus, many are turning away from the “standard of care’ since they feel it will not produce the result they want and hope for, namely life and vitality beyond cancer. Fear of death is one thing, but patients state that fear of death by torture is unacceptable.”[i]

Many thanks to Virginia Von Schaefer, MD, who shared this information with attendees of the conference. Dr Schaefer has over 30 years of clinical experience in general and trauma surgery, endocrinology, and oncology to create strategies to solve her patients’ complex medical problems. Her background in cell biology and biochemistry at Columbia University in New York City, established a special problem- solving mindset and framework that allows her to integrate “the best of both worlds” of conventional medical and surgical practice, along with an understanding of the fundamental biochemical/scientific basis for all current modalities.

Always remember that you and only you can determine the best treatment for your cancer. Your cancer, your body, your choice of treatment.

This post is not intended to endorse Salicinium, but rather to educate and share that Salicinium is just one more option to consider in one’s cancer protocol. Salicinium is a natural phytochemical and not a chemotherapy. Please read the entire Townsend Letter article for further information.

In your everlasting good health,

Elyn

Dietary Antioxidants Mitigate the Effects of EMF Radiation on Cancer and Fertility

In Anticancer foods, foods for colon cancer, foods for breast cancer, antioxidants, Cancer, Cancer Coach, Cell Phones, EMF Radiation, EMF's, EMFs and breast cancer, EMFs and Health Risks, Fertility and Sperm Counts, infertility, male infertility, MRI Dangers, Radiation, Uncategorized on February 13, 2020 at 9:15 am

Electromagnetic fields (EMFs) generated by cellphones, power lines, wiring, home appliances and cellphones have the potential to cause extensive damage to the human body. They may jeopardize fertility and pregnancy, and could lead to conditions such as cancer.

EMFs can directly act on DNA, proteins and lipids, which can lead to molecular and cellular damage. The result is an increase in free radicals with strong oxidative ability. This can lead to chronic inflammation, tissue degeneration, and necrosis (tissue death), which could lead to cancer and other conditions. Dietary supplements and other interventions may offer significant protection against EMF radiation.

EMFs and Oxidative Stress

Oxidative stress is associated with more than one hundred diseases and is considered an emerging health risk factor.

Researchers have found that EMF exposure triggers oxidative stress and causes significant changes in levels of blood antioxidant markers. Oxidative stress occurs if the antioxidant defense system is unable to prevent the harmful effects of free radicals. Many studies have revealed the role of oxidative stress in carcinogenesis. Such studies offer clear evidence that oxidative stress plays an important role in chronic inflammation and gene expression, which in turn could result in many chronic diseases, including cancer.[i]

Other conditions oxidative stress is associated with include sleep disruption, arthrosclerosis, diabetes, dizziness, rheumatoid arthritis, cardiovascular disease, nausea, stroke, and lipid peroxidation (which can cause selective alterations in cell signaling, protein and DNA damage).

EMFs and the Brain

There is considerable evidence that EMFs can affect neural functions in the human brain. EMFs have been reported to alter the permeability of the blood-brain-barrier, which may lead to excess accumulation of heavy metals, including iron, in the brain. Fatigue, headache, decreased learning ability, and cognitive impairment are among the symptoms caused by EMFs.

Studies suggest that long-term exposure to low-frequency EMF increases lipid peroxidation in the brain. Lipid peroxidation can lead to significant damage in cells, particularly in the brain (which may be offset by zinc supplementation and keeping devices away from the brain).[ii]

EMFs and Fertility

A study performed by the Department of Histology and Embryology, Faculty of Medicine, Ondokuz Mayıs University, Samsun, Turkey, and published in the Journal of Microscopy and Ultrastruction, concluded that “exposure to RF-EMF produces increases in testicular proteins in adults that are related to carcinogenic risk and reproductive damage.” The researchers found that exposure to cell phone radiation reduces the motility and morphology of sperm cells. They also reported a “significant increase in fetal abnormalities and spontaneous abortions in pregnant women exposed to EMFs.” [iii]

Carrying phones in your pocket or on your belt exposes your reproductive organs to powerful EMF radiation. Using a laptop on your lap or getting too close to one or your computer may also cause harm.

If you are pregnant, you may be putting your unborn child at risk by exposing him or her to EMF radiation.

belly blanket

Belly Armor Blanket

There is no longer any doubt that electromagnetic fields generated by cellphones, clock radios, computers, power lines, MRIs, Wi-Fi routers, wiring, and home appliances pose health risks, including the risk of cancer.

Belly Armor makes a wonderful blanket you can put on your lap to protect your baby. It works well a a barrier between you and your laptop and even between you and your hard drive (or other sources of EMFs) even if you are not pregnant or hoping to be so.

Lambs makes lambs 2boxer beanies and briefs with something they call WaveStopper, a silver-lining technology that apparently blocks 99% of cellphone and WiFi radiation. For a 15% discount on Lambs radio-protective underwear or beanies, use this LINK and the code ElynJacobs.

Flavonoids, Antioxidants, and Physical Interventions

Flavonoids and antioxidants may offer protection of DNA, prevent scavenging free radicals, and may protect against auto-immune damage and cancer. They may also protect the hematopoietic system and reduce inflammation. Excitingly, flavonoids and antioxidants have not only a radioprotective effect, but also anti-tumor, anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory effects.

Some simple recommendations include consuming flavonoids (such as in berries, apples, tea, citrus fruits, red wine) and antioxidants such as vitamins C, E (mixed tocopherols), as well as gingko biloba, curcumin, lycopene, and melatonin.  Cruciferous vegetables and garlic are also good radioprotectors.  For more radioprotective foods please read Simple Solutions for EMFs.

Important note for those whose cancer protocol requires you to avoid antioxidants. For you (and all), my best advice is to avoid and/or protect yourself with physical barriers (such as those shown above), and avoid x-rays, PET scans and CT scans unless absolutely necessary.

EMF exposure intensity decreases as you increase your distance from the object that’s sending out waves. Therefore, first and foremost, put some distance between you and your technology. Always use speaker phone or air-tube headsets when using cellular devices. But certainly, antioxidant-rich foods and dietary supplements offer significant defense against EMF radiation exposure.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Protect yourself, your fertility, and your children from EMF radiation. Shield yourself from cancer-promoting EMF radiation.

In your everlasting good health,

Elyn

Cancer-Fighting Brussels Sprouts with Pistachios

In Alternative Cancer Therapies, antioxidants, aromatase inhibitors, Breast Cancer, Cancer, Cancer Coach, Cell Phones, colon cancer, Cononavirus, EMF Radiation, EMFs and breast cancer, EMFs and Health Risks, inflammation, prostate cancer, Radiation, Tamoxifen, Uncategorized on February 5, 2020 at 5:08 pm

Brussels sprouts are nutritious and delicious. A member of the cruciferous (aka brassicas) family, they offer several health benefits. Most notably, Brussels sprouts are powerful anti-cancer powerhouses.

Anticancer Benefits of Brussels Sprouts

According to the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and other sources, compounds in Brussels sprouts have powerful anticancer, antioxidant, anti-estrogen, anti-viral, and anti-inflammatory properties.[i] This is due to their high content of glucosinolates, sulfur-containing compounds that have been widely studied for their health benefits.

Diets rich in cruciferous vegetables have been found to inhibit and slow cancer growth in many cancer-cell lines, including breast, prostate, colorectal, esophageal, liver and lymphoma. Researchers attribute the benefits to the glycosinolates in Brussels, particularly sulforaphane and indole-3-carbinol. Notably, these glucosinolates help detoxify and eliminate cancer-causing free-radicals in the body. Sulforaphane promotes cancer cell death and inhibits cancer cell proliferation. It also supports the immune system and in particular, increases Natural Killer Cell activity.

Specific to breast cancer, studies show that Indole 3 carbinol helps to block estrogen receptors and restore receptor site expression to normal levels.[ii] It may act as a natural aromatase inhibitor and mimic tamoxifen or perhaps even perform more anti-cancer benefits than tamoxifen.

How to Enjoy Brussels Sprouts

Brussels sprouts are still in season now, but you won’t see them for long. While available in many areas year-round, the peak season is from September to mid-February. Look for smooth, unblemished, small heads. Sprouts with spots of signs of withering may be past their prime will taste slightly musty and contain fewer nutrients. For maximum freshness, look for Brussels in your local farmer’s market.

Boiling is not really the best option for cooking brussels sprouts as the cancer-fighting glucosinolates are water-soluble and may be lost in the cooking water. Further, high heat may decrease the bioavailability of the sulforaphane in brussels sprouts. Certainly, I do not recommend microwaving.

The following recipe involves a low-heat method that preserves their great nutty flavor and bright color, but also the anticancer benefits of Brussel sprouts.

Brussels Sprouts with Pistachios

Brussels Sprouts with Pistachios

Brussels Sprouts with Pistachios

Serves 2-4

Ingredients:

3 tablespoons coconut oil

1 medium red onion or 2 small red onions or shallots

1-pound Brussels sprouts, trimmed

1/2 cup shelled unsalted pistachios

2-3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

  • Separate outer leaves of the sprouts and reserve; thinly slice the inner core pieces
  • Heat oil in a large skillet over low heat. Add onions or shallots and cook, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes
  • Add the sliced inner core pieces of the sprouts and cook for 5 additional minutes, until soft
  • Add the sprout leaves and pistachios, and sauté until leaves begin to soften, but retain their bright color, about 3 minutes
  • Add the lemon juice and season to taste with fine-ground Celtic sea salt and fresh pepper
  • Serve and enjoy

Heart-healthy pistachios are rich in nutrients, a good source of protein, and packed with antioxidants. Onions are another anticancer powerhouse.

Don’t enjoy Brussels sprouts or out of season? You can take sulforaphane and indole-3-carbinol in supplements.

Options for Breast Cancer: Making the Best Choice for YOU

If you don’t know your options (for breast cancer) you don’t have any. That is my motto, and I can’t tell you how important it is to take control of your treatment plan. It is imperative that you make informed choices, not fear-based choices for your breast cancer.

In October, 2014 I found that my previously stage 1 cancer had spread to my lymph nodes. I was subsequently diagnosed as stage 3 (ER+). I have told this story before, but am sharing it again as I want people to know there are many paths to healing breast cancer.

Importantly, there are many reasons why people get cancer and why it returns. Resolving those reasons can make all the difference in survival.

Declining Chemo and Radiation

My choice does not necessarily have to be your choice. I was fortunate that I had a holistically-minded oncologist who supported my choices. A world-renowned integrative oncologist, he believed healing cancer often required both Eastern and Western medicine. This typically involved conventional methods used alongside holistic mind-body therapies, supplements, dietary changes, and more. Most of all, like me, he believed getting to the reason for the cancer is a major part of treating it.

Given my new diagnosis, my oncologist was legally compelled to recommend chemotherapy. I know that if had chosen the conventional chemo (or even the low dose chemo he suggested after I declined traditional chemo) it would have been a reasonable option. I know that if I had chosen it, he would have done everything he could to make the treatment work better with less negative effects.

That said, it did not resonate with me. Part of that came from my mother dying not so much from her cancer, but from the treatment (he was not her doctor). The rest came from my innate feeling that it was not right for me, and that it would not resolve the reason for my recurrence. My oncologist agreed that chemo was not necessarily the best option for me. He said was glad that I opted out of radiotherapy, and supported my choice to skip the aromatase inhibitors. He offered a few other options, but none seemed to resonate with me. I will forever be grateful for his support.

My Choices for Breast Cancer

Instead of the options presented, I chose a protocol put together from my years of research and conference attendance, leaning on input from my oncologist and an alternative doctor friend of mine.  I do believe that most of us have more to learn than we will ever know, and the experience has only strengthened my ability to help my clients through their cancer.

You can read about my protocol HERE. A major part of my healing (and most likely one of the major reasons for the recurrence) was resolving past emotional traumas, which you can read about HERE.

Read about natural alternatives to aromatase inhibitors and tamoxifen HERE.

Goals for Healing:

  • Don’t be fooled that your own estrogen is the reason for your breast cancer (it plays a role, but not the lead).
  • Target viruses such as Epstein Barr, which plays a significant role in breast cancer (and you may not realize you have it)
  • Clean house: remove toxic products and people from your life
  • Eat clean without deprivation
  • Take targeted supplements
  • Resolve the traumas that are getting in the way of your healing and may well be at the root cause of your breast cancer
  • Avoid EMFs and take protective measures; for recommendations, click HERE
  • Believe you can and will heal–the power of the mind is incredible!
  • Walk in nature; soak up the positive vibes and the sun
  • Live, laugh, love and smile!
