Cancer remains one of the biggest health challenges of our time. While conventional treatments can prolong life, they often come at a high price. There is the financial side of it, of course, but also the debilitating and often life-threatening side and resulting effects. As Dr Keith Block, an internationally recognized expert in integrative oncology, has said time and again,

Most people with cancer do not die of their cancer, but rather from the complications and consequences of cancer and its treatment.”[i]

Unfortunately, many oncologists are offering conventional treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy without life-saving integrative support. And sadly, whenever a non-toxic remedy for cancer is discovered it is met with fierce opposition from the pharmaceutical industry.

Today I will discuss a ‘cancer killer’ from from the Beljanski line, OnKobel-Pro® , which can be used synergistically with conventional treatments or as part of a holistic cancer protocol.  If you are unfamiliar with Mirko Beljanski, PhD, and his research, here is a short synopsis:

Mirko Beljanski was a ‘green’ molecular biologist who discovered certain plant extracts that selectively target cancer cells, including circulating tumor cells. Importantly, he found that these extracts selectively block cancerous cell multiplication without killing healthy cells. His daughter, Sylvie Beljanski, carried forward the research and development after his death. For more about Mirko Beljanski and the history behind Beljanski products, please read Extraordinary Healing or Wining the War on Cancer

What is OnKobel?

OnKobel-Pro®  is a unique formulation of three botanicals (Pao pereira, Rauwolfia vomitoria, golden leaf of Ginkgo biloba). According to the research some of the benefits include:*

  • may exert a significant anti-inflammatory effect and so provide support for the immune system;
  • induces apoptosis (death) of cancer cells for many patients suffering from various kinds of cancer;
  • may inhibit the growth and spread of cancer;
  • provides multiple levels of support for the growth of healthy cells and elimination of abnormal cells;
  • helps to normalize the balance of hormones in male and female reproductive systems; and
  • has a protective effect on tissues exposed to various forms of electromagnetic radiation (EMFs)

*See Beljanski online for more information, resources, and references

RGCC, a.k.a the “Greek Test” (which tests the blood for malignant tumor cells, including circulating tumor cells, and assesses the patient’s sensitivity to chemotherapy as well as natural substances that target cancer cells: More below) lists OnKobel-Pro® as an agent that targets circulating tumor cells by inhibiting the growth and spread of cancer. In Japan, where the RGCC test is routinely prescribed, OnKobel-Pro®  has been confirmed to be able to induce apoptosis (death) of the cancer cells for many patients suffering from various kinds of cancer. [ii]

If you are a client of mine and wish to discuss whether or not the test is right for you, kindly schedule a short call to discuss this.

What is the RGCC test?

They actually have more than one test but the one I am referring to is called Onconomics Extracts:

“This test provides information about the efficacy of natural biological substances or extracts on circulating tumour cells. Onconomics Extracts focuses on testing using three methods: testing for the direct effect of an anti-cancer treatment, stimulating the immune system and inhibiting proliferative signals in the cancer cells that stimulate them to grow.” RGCC[iii]

IMMUNOBEL-Pro, another Beljanski product, can be taken if the white blood cell and platelet counts are low due to radiation or chemotherapy treatments, and according to the manufacturer, should be started the day before any cytotoxic treatments begin.

12 Top Supplements for Prostate Cancer

In Alternative Cancer Therapies, aromatase inhibitors, Cancer, Cancer Coach, cancer stem cells and recurrence, Cell Phones, EMF's, Healing Cancer Naturally, prostate cancer, Radiation, targeting cancer stem cells, Uncategorized on December 7, 2019 at 9:00 am

The conventional treatments for prostate cancer include everything from ‘watchful waiting’, active surveillance, external radiation therapy, radioactive seeds, to radical prostatectomy. Some less conventional treatments include hyperthermia, which can vary in intensity depending on the clinic, but has shown strong efficacy in some cases. But strong research shows that targeted supplements can be highly effective alongside or in some cases in lieu of the more damaging and expensive remedies.

Aside from the more standard essentials such as magnesium, selenium, CoQ10, and vitamin D, there are many non-toxic affordable supplements available that can be used alongside and often in lieu of other treatment offerings for prostate cancer. Keep in mind that quality matters as there is always the risk of harmful or risky additives. For example, while oleander has been found to increase the sensitivity to radiotherapy of PC-3 prostate cells and has other cancer-fighting properties,[i] some formulas contain grain alcohol, which is not advised as is typically made from GMO grain or corn. It is also very important to cycle supplements as cancer stem cells can be come resistant to even the best of the best.

While not inclusive, here are some top supplements for prostate cancer:

  • Aromastat-supports healthy hormonal balance in men; regulates testosterone and modulates aromatase, the enzyme that converts testosterone into estrogen. Aromastat
  • Beta-sitosterol is a food-based plant sterol (Phyto sterol) which is noted for its ability to protect the prostate and relieve the symptoms of prostate problems. Studies have found that beta-sitosterol also kills both prostate cancer cells without harming normal cells, reduces prostate tumor growth, and protects against prostate cancer. Beta-sitosterol is found in olive oil, flax seed, nuts, avocado, and other fruits and vegetables. Beta-sitosterol
  • DIM (Diindolylmethane), a phytonutrient and plant indole found in cruciferous vegetables (such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, kale, etc.) is a natural aromatase inhibitor, which is helpful for hormone-driven cancers. Joint USA/Chinese research reported in September 2016 found that DIM also reduces tumor growth by suppressing a gene known as PCGEM1 and promotes apoptosis (cancer cell death). DHT Block (DIM)
  • IP6 increases Natural Killer Cell activity; inhibits cell proliferation; helps stop cancer growth; inhibits cell progression; inhibits metastasis; induces apoptosis; and inhibits angiogenesis. Supports the p21 and p53 genes (tumor suppressor genes) that control cancer growth. “By targeting PI3K-ILK1-Akt pathway, IP6 suppresses cell survival, proliferation and angiogenesis and induces death in PCa cells, which might have translational potential in preventing and controlling the growth of advanced and aggressive PCa.” [ii]  IP6 or Cell Forte
  • Modified Citrus Pectin (MCP) is a type of polysaccharide that comes from the cell walls of citrus fruit and is most commonly known as a source of dietary fiber. It can also lessen the “stickiness” of cancer cells that could be exacerbated with surgery and may lead to cancer metastasis. Evidence-based research has shown MCP to have a direct effect on prostate cancer. Studies have found MCP intake to decrease cancer cell adhesion, thus reducing the risk of metastases. MCP has been shown to prolong the time it takes for doubling of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels; the more slowly PSA doubles, the more slowly the tumor is growing. MCP also activates cancer-killing immune system cells (natural killer, or NK, cells), boosting their ability to patrol for and eliminate cancers as soon as they form Modified Citrus Pectin and ProstaCaid
  • OnKobel-Pro® –is a professional formulation of three unique botanicals (Pao pereira, Rauwolfia vomitoria, and golden leaf of Ginkgo biloba) and magnesium specially designed to help support cellular health. OnKobel-Pro® provides multiple levels of support for the growth of healthy cells, elimination of abnormal cells, and the maintenance of natural levels of enzymes that are critical for homeostasis (according to extensive research by Beljanski –see Description online). RGCC (a.k.a Greek test) lists OnKobel-Pro® as an agent that targets circulating tumor cells by inhibiting the growth and spread of cancer. In Japan, where the RGCC test is routinely prescribed, the specific mix of Pao pereira (formerly known as PB-100)Rauwolfia vomitoria and golden Ginkgo biloba extracts (OnKobel-Pro®) has been confirmed to be able to induce apoptosis (death) of the cancer cells for many patients suffering from  prostate cancer.[iii]
  • PROSTABEL®, a powerful combination of two plant extracts has strong anti-cancer abilitites that act on damaged DNA and inhibits tumor growth. It also supports the body’s natural defense system to target cancer cells. PROSTABEL®
  • Pomegranate: Not only are pomegranates good for your heart and blood vessels but they have been shown to inhibit  prostate cancer and prevent vascular changes that promote tumor growth. Pomegranate has also been found to kill cancer stem cells. Pomegranate Plus
  • Pterostilbene, found an abundance in blueberries, is anti-inflammatory and inhibits proliferation and regulates cell cycle dysfunction in prostate cancer cells. t also inhibits cell growth and adhesion and decreases metastatic activity. Pterostilbene
  • PanacurC (Fenbendazole) shows good promise for cancer. There may be some mild side effects to this treatment. There are some excellent Facebook groups that share patient stories and experiences. PanacurC
  • Quercetin is an antioxidant which belongs to a group of plant pigments called flavonoids that give many fruits, flowers, and vegetables their colors. Like other antioxidants, quercetin helps scavenge free radicals in the body which damage cell membranes and tamper with DNA. In addition to protection against heart disease, studies have shown that quercetin inhibits the growth of cancer cells from prostate tumors, including cancer stem cells. Quercetin is found in onions, apples, red grapes, as well as in supplement form. Quercetin
  • Zeolite: chelates toxic minerals such as mercury, lead, cadmium and aluminum; removes PCBs from the body; reduces diarrhea; improves nutrient absorption from the digestive tract; has anticancer properties as it activates the P21 and indirectly the suppressor gene P53; balances digestive pH; modulates the immune system, possibly in part by reducing toxic materials and targets pre-viral cells. Zeolite–AV Capsules

This list is not inclusive, and synergistic food offerings matter as well. A product called  IMMUNOBEL-PR0 can be taken if the white blood cell and platelet counts are low due to these treatments, and should be started the day before treatments begin. For more information on the foods, practices, and supplements that support prostate health and healing you can order my handout on Prostate Health and Prostate Cancer, via my Contact Page.

The Anti-Cancer Benefits of Horseradish

In Anticancer foods, foods for colon cancer, foods for breast cancer, Breast Cancer, Cancer, Epstein-Barr Virus, Healing Cancer Naturally, inflammation, targeting cancer stem cells, Uncategorized on September 10, 2019 at 12:19 pm

Horseradish, a member of the cruciferous family, contains numerous anti-cancer compounds. The phytonutrients in horseradish up-regulate antioxidant enzymes and detoxification processes which clear toxic compounds from the body, inhibit the growth and spread of cancer, target cancer stem cells, and lower cancer-promoting inflammation.

Cancer Fighting Abilities of Horseradish

Horseradish is rich in isothiocyanates (ITCs), compounds well known to protect against cancer and target its pathways. ITCs restrain certain pro-inflammatory compounds that are associated with chronic inflammation and cancer.  Importantly, ITCs kill off cancer cells, including cancer stem cells, which is essential for preventing metastases.  Read more about cancer-fighting ITCs and other benefits of crucifers HERE.

horseradish

Pictured here on a bed of watercress, another potent anticancer food

But while ITCs are great, another important compound in horseradish known as glucosinolates helps produce those ITCs. This happens when the flesh of a crucifer such as horseradish is cut or chewed.

According to research published in Vegetable Crops Research Bulletin, “glucosinolates in horseradish inhibit mitosis and stimulate apoptosis [cancer cell death] in human tumor cells. The substances may selectively inhibit the growth of tumor cells even after initiation by chemical carcinogens. They may also protect against tumor development.” [i]

Researchers at the University of Illinois have determined that horseradish is a potent anti-carcinogen as it detoxifies cancer-causing molecules and is absorbed well in the body.[ii] Importantly, they found that glucosinolates in horseradish help detoxify and eliminate troublesome free-radicals in the body. The researchers also discovered that horseradish contains more glucoisinolates than broccoli! Of course, for most of us it is easier to eat large amounts of broccoli than horseradish. Still, it couldn’t hurt to include this powerful root in your diet.

Horseradish is also a potent infection fighter. It contains a volatile oil called sinigrin, which is a natural antibiotic and contains other compounds that target upper respiratory issues such as congestion and inflammation. But that is not all.  Horseradish has been found to fight bacteria and viruses (including Epstein Barr), lower cholesterol, and stimulate the immune system.

For many, the only dose of horseradish consumed is in Bloody Mary’s or cocktail sauce.  So if you had too many Bloody’s in your younger life, know that it wasn’t all bad (and we all look forward, not back). I can’t speak of the mix or the alcohol, but at least you may have ingested a cocktail with some health-promoting, cancer- fighting punch. But this article is not intended to send you to the bar, only to tell you the virtues of horseradish.

Horseradish compliments dishes made with apples, potatoes, cheese, mustard, and eggs, and pairs well with cancer-fighting herbs such as basil, parsley, rosemary and various seeds. And should you be out of wasabi, know that horseradish is a fine substitute (wasabi is often horseradish dyed green 😊)

In your good health,

Elyn

Oatmeal Buckwheat Flax Seed Pancakes with Black Raspberry Syrup

In Anticancer foods, foods for colon cancer, foods for breast cancer, antioxidants, Breast Cancer, Cancer, cancer stem cells and recurrence, inflammation, targeting cancer stem cells, Uncategorized on February 25, 2019 at 8:29 am

Black raspberries are anticancer powerhouses, even more so than raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, and cranberries. All are loaded with flavonoids and anthocyanidins that reduce inflammation and contain cancer-busting phytochemicals such as ellagitannins and ellagic acid, but black raspberries really stand out. The phytonutrients in black raspberries have been found to inhibit cervical cancer cell growth and tumor formation, inhibit inflammation, and induce apoptosis in various cancer cell lines. According to the late Dr. Mitch Gaynor, M.D. world-renowned integrative oncologist, black raspberries are likely the most potent anti-inflammatory food out there.

Black Rasp

Importantly, black raspberries have been found to target cancer stem cells, thought to be responsible for recurrent and progressive disease. Studies also show that dried black raspberry power may improve blood pressure and support cardiovascular health.[i] (For more benefits read, Raspberries: One Powerful Anti-Cancer Fruit.)

Black raspberries and blueberries are particularly high in antioxidant activity. Antioxidants are thought to protect the body against the destructive effects of free radicals. Free radicals are toxic byproducts of oxygen metabolism that can cause significant damage to living cells and tissues in a process called “oxidative stress.” Free radicals are also produced by pollution, cigarette smoke, herbicides, and EMFs (Electromagnetic fields).* For that matter, some free radicals are generated by the immune system to neutralize viruses and bacteria (for information on antiviral substances, please read Epstein Barr Management.)

The trouble is black raspberries are hard to find and only in season for a short time. In this version of pancakes, I added a black raspberry syrup that will wow you. It is made with raw freeze-dried black raspberry powder, and is absolutely delicious.

Black RaspPancakes

Ingredients:

  • ¼ plus 1/8th cup whole rolled oats
  • 1/8 cup buckwheat grouts
  • 3 tablespoons organic whole flax seeds
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon fine ground Celtic sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground Ceylon cinnamon
  • Pinch ground cloves
  • Pinch ground allspice
  • 1 pastured egg
  • 8 tablespoons coconut milk
  • ½ teaspoon ghee, butter, or coconut oil
  • 1/3 cup fresh or frozen (but defrosted) wild blueberries (optional)
  • Black raspberry syrup (recipe below)

Instructions:

  1. Place the oats in a bowl
  2. Grind the groats and flaxseed in a coffee grinder and add to the oats
  3. Mix in the baking powder, salt, and spices
  4. Add in the egg and coconut milk
  5. Warm the ghee in a large frying pan over low heat
  6. Drop one 1/3 of the batter into the frying pan, smoothing to shape and flatten slightly. Repeat to make two more pancakes
  7. Allow too cook 3-4 minutes until slightly bubbling and firm; flip and cook 1-2 more minutes. Remove and top with blueberries. Sprinkle with additional salt, if desired.
  8. Drizzle blackberry syrup over the top and enjoy

Serves one hungry person (to serve two, make 4 smaller pancakes, two for each)

Time: 20 minutes

Black Raspberry Syrup — Mix 1 teaspoon freeze-dried black raspberry powder into 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup.

What sets maple syrup apart from sugar is its minerals and antioxidants.  Some research indicates maple syrup contains some 24 different antioxidants, with Grade B containing more than Grade A. While maple syrup falls in the category of sugar, some research says that pure maple syrup may promote a healthy liver and actually help regulate glucose metabolism and increase insulininsulin release.[ii

Dr. Gaynor believed that everyone should consume black raspberry powder daily, even several times daily to calm inflammation (especially effective for relief from upper respiratory issues).

You can add black raspberry powder to your favorite smoothie recipe or even just to water. You may find black raspberries in capsule form to be helpful as well.

If you don’t know your options, you don’t have any.”    —Elyn Jacobs, Cancer Coach

cancer deception

This past June, Dr. Michael Schachter presented at the 2016 International Conference: The Latest Developments in Integrative Cancer Therapies, held in Melbourne and Sydney, Australia. (He has been lecturing on this topic for years, throughout the United States and elsewhere.)

A major thesis of his presentation was that alternative treatment protocols have the potential to be competitive if not superior to conventional treatments. They should be considered as primary– not merely supplementary options for treatment.

Losing the Cancer War

Dr. Schachter stated we are losing the “war on cancer” as declared by President Nixon in the early 1970’s, with little improvement in the death rate and higher incidence of many cancers. The reason for this is that the cancer effort was really misfocused from the start. One problem is that there has been an emphasis on trying to cure cancer rather than on preventing it. Another problem is that treatment emphasized patent-able toxic drugs and radiation without paying sufficient attention to relatively non-toxic natural approaches like low dose Naltrexone,  IV Vitamin C, Salvestrols and others. Clearly, preventive strategies have worked for reducing the incidence and mortality of heart disease and stroke, but the medical establishment has put up severe resistance to the idea that we can best manage cancer by preventing it.

In fact, Dr. Schachter was quick to point out that despite the billions of dollars spent, there has been virtually no change in the death rates from cancer from 1950 to date. This is in stark contrast to the approximately 70% reduction in deaths from other conditions such as heart disease and stroke.

The Five-Year Survival Yardstick

Certainly, the five-year survival rate for cancer has increased, but that number is misleading—it provides no clue as to how many survivors are free of their disease. Included in this number are hundreds of thousands of people who will battle cancer to the five-year mark and beyond, only to have endured one toxic protocol after another. [Editor’s note: and frequently poor quality of life. Surviving is not the same as thriving!]

Furthermore, because diagnostic tests are finding more cancers at an early stage, more patients are being treated at an early stage. This translates to more patients making this five-year mark. However, this is at a stiff cost—for example, in the case of breast cancer, earlier benchmarking means more harmful testing and many unnecessary biopsies when something suspicious comes up on a mammogram. But a significant number of these early stage patients will be re-diagnosed as “late stage” six to ten years from their first diagnosis. And a patient who dies after a grueling six-year battle with cancer is nevertheless placed in the “survived” category because she has survived more than five years from the time of diagnosis. So you see, not only is the current standard of care not working, but the methodology of collecting statistics is flawed.

And although more patients are living longer today, only a small portion of that longevity has come from advances in conventional cancer treatment. Despite the endless procession of “wonder drugs,” the deadliest of cancers are still as deadly now as they were at the start of “the war.”

Limits of Drug Therapy

What the failure of the “war on cancer” implies is that pretty much every agent in the fight against cancer—those myriad compounds that have set the research community abuzz and which have generated billions of dollars in profits — have had only a modest effect on long-term patient outcomes.

The latest progress in anti-cancer drugs seems to be with targeted therapies. This approach uses patented medications to inhibit or block biochemical pathways that play a role in cancer growth and spread. Most generics of these medications end in “mab” (monoclonal antibodies) or “nib” (small molecules). Examples are: Herceptin = Trastuzumab and Avastin = Bevacizumab (monoclonal antibodies) and Gleevec = Imatinib and Tarceva = Erlotinib (small molecules). The problem is that because there are many pathways within a cancer, these drugs have only limited effectiveness, and they also have undesirable side effects. Furthermore, since these pathways are used for normal cell functions as well, strong inhibition of a cancer pathway may cause severe complications in healthy cells. Moreover, many of these cancer pathways can be blocked with natural substances with much fewer side effects.

The cancer industry wants you to believe that its drugs are useful, and oncologists are joyful when a patient’s tumor shrinks on drug treatment. The problem is that shrinking tumors has little to do with improving the long-term survival of patients. It is not the initial tumor that kills people but rather the metastasis of the cancer cells. Aggressive cells break off from the primary tumor site and travel to the bones, brain, liver, lungs, or to some other vital area of the body. Even if an entire tumor is removed, and even if the nearby lymph nodes are negative for cancer, microscopic cells often recolonize elsewhere and are not found until later. According to Dr. Schachter, metastasis is what kills. [Editor’s note: Most cancer patients do not die from their disease at all, but rather from malnutrition, toxemia, and/or infections.]

Unfortunately, cancer treatments such as chemo and radiation not target the very cells responsible for metastases — the cancer stem cells – and in fact may encourage them to grow faster. This is one of the main reasons that conventional treatments like radiation and chemotherapy produce such poor results in the treatment of stage IV metastases (cancers that have spread to distant organs). A promising approach to this problem — though generally ignored by conventional oncologists — is the use of relatively non-toxic, anti-inflammatory herbs and nutrients. Substances that target cancer stem cells like black cumin, curcumin, broccoli extracts, vitamin D, and many others can play an important role. For more on this topic, please read Cancer Stem Cells and Progression of Disease: What You Need to Know Now.

Furthermore, we now know that conventional treatments sharply raise the risk for heart problems, stroke, and secondary cancers. Children are particularly at risk. Pediatric survivors have a six-fold greater risk of getting a second cancer, and adults face significant risk for complications as well.

No great insight is required to see that that our cancer-strategy is flawed. The ultimate problem lies in the cancer culture itself.

Challenging Traditional Views of Cancer

Surprisingly, decades ago some scientists viewed the cancer mechanism differently from the vast majority of cancer theorists. In recent years, the theory of cancer as outlined by Otto Warburg in the 1920’s has become more widely accepted. According to a written statement by Dr. Warburg,

“But nobody today can say that one does not know what cancer and its prime cause [are]. On the contrary, there is no disease whose prime cause is better known, so that today ignorance is no longer an excuse that one cannot do more about prevention. That prevention of cancer will come there is no doubt, for man wishes to survive. But how long prevention will be avoided depends on how long the prophets of agnosticism will succeed in inhibiting the application of scientific knowledge in the cancer field. In the meantime, millions of men must die of cancer unnecessarily.” [i]

— Dr. Otto Warburg, Medical Nobel Prize winner, Lindau, Germany, 1966

In 1986, John Bailar, a National Cancer Institute (NCI) statistician, also had the nerve to question the progress in the war on cancer, although he was severely ridiculed and shunned for doing so. In his 1986 paper “Progress Against Cancer?” Bailar argued that cancer research focuses too much on treatment and not enough on prevention, which would be far more effective. Then in 1997 in his paper “Cancer Undefeated” he concluded that “the effect of new treatments for cancer on mortality has been largely disappointing.”[ii]

In 1996, Michael Sporn, in an article printed in The Lancet, declared the war on cancer a failure. [iii] He predicted that the NCI would not achieve its stated target of a 50% reduction in cancer deaths by the year 2000. Sadly, he was right. Sporn believed that cancer could be chemically stopped, slowed, or reversed in its earliest pre-invasive stages. He even coined the widely-used term chemoprevention to distinguish cancer intervention from treatment. His was a truly radical idea in the cancer community.

Sporn’s goal was to dislodge the theory that cancer is something that just happens suddenly, that it is even a disease state. He did not subscribe to the idea that one either has cancer or not. Oncologists treat cancer, but logically, cancer is not an event of any kind. It does not suddenly happen upon diagnosis. It comes from years of dis-ease—it is a process. It begins when normal differentiation of a cell fails, when proper communication halts, and when the environment encourages cancer development. Long before cancer is detected, cancer is brewing—through a process known as carcinogenesis. It is nonsense to believe that the process has not been under way for many years.

Time for Change

Thankfully, our understanding of the nature of cancer and cancer treatment are in the process of undergoing major changes — though for economic and social reasons, there is tremendous resistance to these changes. Resistance comes from pharmaceutical companies, organized medicine, insurance companies, institutes of medical education, and the media. But if the path to cancer is something we can understand, why not treat it that way? It would be prudent to address the smoke before the fire burns down the house—to heal the patient at the very first signs of disease.

What if we could look at risk factors and markers, use diet instead of drugs, and use targeted supplements to prevent the development and progression of cancer? What if we were to heal the person with the cancer instead of just targeting the cancer? Surely, we would then stand a greater chance of winning the war. What if treatment for cancer patients started with a focus on lifestyle and nutritional changes? Considering that in many cases poor nutritional and lifestyle choices have contributed to the development of cancer, it would seem prudent to address such issues. Rather than just focusing on toxic conventional treatments, we could use various nutrients, herbs, and other non-toxic supplements in a synergistic way to improve the results with conventional treatment or, in some cases, instead of conventional treatment.

For sure, it is time to question the cancer strategy. It’s time for change.

Raspberries: One Powerful Anti-Cancer Fruit

In Alternative Cancer Therapies, Breast Cancer, Cancer, cancer stem cells and recurrence, chemo and cancer stem cells, foods that target cancer stem cells, radiation and cancer stem cells, supplements that target cancer stem cells, targeting cancer stem cells, Uncategorized on May 3, 2016 at 12:05 pm

Certain phytonutrients found in raspberries can protect us from cancer and can even shrink some types of cancer tumors.

Raspberries contain ellagitannins, one of the most powerful antioxidants known.  Ellagitannins occur naturally in over forty different foods, but are found in abundance in raspberries, strawberries and pomegranate. However, red raspberry seeds, and the Meeker variety in particular, appear to be the most concentrated source of this beneficial phenolic complex.  Interestingly, the seeds of the fruit contain more ellatitannins than the fruit itself.

Ellagitannins are large flat molecules found in the fruit and seeds of many fruits.  Ellagitannins are water-soluble, making them easy for the body to absorb. After consumption, stomach acids convert these ellagitannins into ellagic acid. It is important to know that as such, that ellatitannins should be obtained from food, not as supplemental ellagic acid.

There has been much research into ellagic acid. Its value as a potent anti-oxidant and its value in fighting cancer is widely accepted. Ellagic acid has been shown to keep cancer cells from dividing and multiplying and eventually helps to kill the cancer. Ellagic acid inhibits angiogenesis—a term used to describe the development of blood vessels needed for tumor growth. It also encourages apoptosis (cancer cell death.) Ellagic has been quite successful against esophageal, breast, colon, prostate, and skin cancer.  Studies have shown that ellagic acid may help prevent the development of cancer in cells infected with the human papilloma virus, which has been linked to cervical cancer.

Ellagitannins may also support healthy cholesterol levels and have anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-bacterial properties. Red Raspberry Seed Powder

Ellagic acid works in many wonderful ways:

  • Powerful antioxidant– it neutralizes cell damaging free radicals
  • Protects the p53 tumor suppressor gene. The P53 gene causes cell reproduction to cease, and cells to die
  • Protects DNA from the mutations that cause cancer
  • Stops cancer cell proliferation
  • Induces cancer cell death
  • Lowers inflammation
  • Slows tumor growth
  • Targets cancer stem cells: Cancer stem cells not only survive most conventional treatments, but are responsible for recurrent and progressive disease
  • Inhibits the growth of oral, breast, colon, cervical, and prostate tumor cell lines
  • Supports healthy cholesterol levels
  • Has anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial properties

Don’t overlook another amazing type of raspberry—black raspberries

Studies show that black raspberries kill cancer cells and activate tumor suppressor genes.

The phytonutrients in black raspberries have been found to inhibit cervical cancer cell growth and tumor formation, inhibit inflammation and induce apoptosis in esophageal and colorectal cancer tissues (strawberries are also highly effective against esophageal cancer cells). While it can be challenging to find fresh or even frozen black raspberries, it can be purchased in powder form–and is delicious in smoothies! Black Raspberry Powder
